Thai Supreme Commander Warns Myanmar: Don't Harm Border Citizens
Thai Supreme Commander General Ukrit Buntanont warned Myanmar not to let its military operations harm Thai border citizens
On November 5, 2026, at the National Defence College, General Ukrit Buntanont, the Supreme Commander, addressed the Thai-Myanmar border situation after meeting with the Myanmar military attaché in Bangkok. He stated that Thailand has a clear position on safeguarding border residents' safety and ensuring information exchange without misunderstanding. When asked whether Myanmar's aim to retake all military bases seized by ethnic armed groups would further impact the Thai border, General Ukrit replied that if Myanmar proceeds, it must heed Thailand's concerns and absolutely avoid any impact on Thai citizens along the border. "What they do in their territory is their affair, but do not let it affect Thai citizens in Thai territory. That is all we ask," he said. The Myanmar deputy military attaché reportedly agreed, but actual compliance will be judged by future events, which will serve as the indicator. The Supreme Commander expressed confidence that Myanmar understands.
