Police Arrest Motorcycle Theft Gang, Three Teens Involved
Samut Prakan police arrested a motorcycle theft gang that stole 15 Honda Wave bikes and two covered pickup trucks for resale across the border. Three of the seven suspects are teenagers aged 16‑17, each allegedly paid about 18,000 baht per bike. The youths said they learned the technique from YouTube and did it to earn money for their parents.
The case began after victims reported their Honda Wave motorbikes stolen from the Aua Athorn Prachamit building in Bang Mueang, Samut Prakan. Police reviewed CCTV footage and traced the bikes to a hiding spot under the Kanchanaphisek overpass on Srinakarin Road. Officers observed a grey Toyota Vigo pickup truck entering the area; a 17‑year‑old approached the hidden bikes and directed officers to move them. Police arrested the driver and the teenager, then expanded the investigation. A raid on a rental house in Chachoengsao uncovered another 14 Honda Waves and a second covered pickup truck. Some suspects tried to flee but were apprehended. Interrogation revealed that a Thai financier directed the gang via phone, targeting mostly Honda Wave 110‑cc and 125‑cc bikes parked at apartments and state‑housing complexes because of demand. Thieves forced the ignition lock and hot‑wired the bikes, rode them to a meeting point, where a covered pickup transferred them to the Chachoengsao hideout for lock replacement before sending them to a neighboring country’s border. Each thief received 10,000‑20,000 baht per bike after delivery. A 16‑year‑old told police he learned the technique from YouTube videos, chose newer models, forced the ignition, hot‑wired, left the bike at a friend’s house, then arranged for a pickup truck to collect it. He said he had committed several similar thefts, sending the money to his parents.
