Police Officer Charged After SUV Hits Burapa University Student
An SUV struck a motorcycle near a Lotus store in Chonburi, killing a Burapha University student and injuring another. The driver was identified as a police officer from Provincial Police Region 2 and has been charged with reckless driving causing death. Police have seized a SIG SAUER pistol and other evidence from the vehicle as the investigation continues.
Police Major General Chatri Sukhsiri, commander of the Chonburi Provincial Police, ordered Colonel Naratchaphong Udomsi of Saen Suk Police Station and investigators to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation, emphasizing evidence collection and fairness to all parties. After gathering evidence and inspecting the scene, investigators confirmed the driver was a police officer from a unit outside Provincial Police Region 2. The suspect has been charged with reckless driving resulting in death, causing bodily or mental harm, and damaging others' property. Officers also recovered a SIG SAUER P365 9mm pistol, three magazines, six rounds of ammunition, and a holster from the SUV. The case remains under investigation, awaiting autopsy results, wound examinations, witness statements, and forensic analysis before being forwarded to the prosecution.
