Police Seize 100 kg Ice Disguised as Alum in Northeast Thailand
Police in Thailand’s Northeast seized 100 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in sacks labeled as alum. Two suspects, Krittakon and Atchara, were arrested after attempting to transport the drugs from the Mekong River border to a courier service for delivery to central Thailand. The operation also yielded firearms and ammunition, and investigators are expanding the probe to uncover the wider network.
On 8 October 2026, officers from Thailand’s Region 4 Police intercepted a grey Toyota Revo pickup on Highway 212 in Bueng Kan Province. Acting on intelligence gathered since 1 October, the police stopped the vehicle after it entered Sakon Nakhon Province and turned into a resort in Phanakon District. Inside the truck, authorities found four fertilizer sacks each containing 25 kilograms of methamphetamine (ice) packed to resemble alum, for a total of 100 kilograms. They also seized a Smith & Wesson revolver, a locally made .38‑caliber pistol, and ten .38 rounds.
The suspects, identified as 45‑year‑old Krittakon and 27‑year‑old Atchara, told police they had brought the drugs to Sakon Nakhon to send them via a private courier service in Phanakon District for onward delivery to central Thailand. Officers recovered the narcotics, weapons, and ammunition, and the pair were taken to Phanakon Police Station for processing. The operation, part of the ‘Protection of the Mekong River Border Area’ initiative, continues as police expand their investigation to trace the broader network.
