18 Call‑Center Suspects Found Among 193 Thai Deportees
Nineteen‑three Thai citizens returned from Cambodia were taken into custody by Sa Kaeo immigration police. Screening revealed 18 individuals with active arrest warrants linked to call‑center fraud. Authorities are using the National Referral Mechanism to distinguish victims from perpetrators and pursue legal action.
On October 8, 2024, Immigration Police in Sa Kaeo received 193 Thai nationals who had been deported from Cambodia following a crackdown on online scam and transnational call‑center gangs. Senior officials, including the Immigration Bureau chief and regional commanders, oversaw the operation at the Ban Khlong Luek permanent border crossing in Aranyaprathet district. Officers applied the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to screen returnees, checking criminal records, identifying potential victims of human trafficking, and separating those who willingly joined scam networks for prosecution. Preliminary cyber‑police interviews found 31 individuals with case IDs and 18 with outstanding arrest warrants, who will face legal action.
