Police Reenact Murder Scene of Chumphon Fisherman
Chumphon police arrested a 30‑year‑old Myanmar worker suspected of killing a fellow fisherman over a stolen property dispute, then reenacted the crime at the scene. The victim’s body was found floating near a fishing boat with an iron rod embedded in his neck and multiple wounds. Officers say the suspect led them to the boat, the attack site, and the dumping point before being taken back to the station for further legal action.
Chumphon Pak Nam Police apprehended the aggressive laborer accused of murdering a coworker before throwing the corpse into the sea and then carried out a crime scene reenactment. Investigators believe the killing was over stolen belongings. At 1:30 p.m. on 7 October 2026, Pol.Col. Sompol Buranateth, together with Pol.Lt.Col. Phattasarn Buakaew, investigators and the detective team, escorted Mr. Tha Nge Thar, 30, a Myanmar citizen, to the large fishing vessel at Pak Nam pier, Moo 8, Pak Nam subdistrict, Mueang district, Chumphon, for the reenactment. Following the discovery of a male body on the morning of 6 October, floating near a fishing boat in the Tha Taphao canal, Moo 8, Pak Nam, Mueang, Chumphon, forensic examination showed an iron rod lodged in the rear of the neck, a sharp‑object cut under the chin producing a serious wound, and multiple head injuries. A mobile phone and a gas‑check light were found on the victim; no identification papers were present. Initially police suspected homicide, prompting the superintendent to order the deputy superintendent of investigations to deploy detectives who traced the victim to Mr. Hia Det Ted Jong, 29, also from Myanmar, and gathered evidence leading to the arrest. Officers took the suspect to point out the fishing boat where the victim worked and lived, the second location where the assault occurred, and the spot where the body was dumped—all situated close together, with the crime scene about 50 meters from where the body was found. The reenactment lasted roughly 20 minutes before the suspect was returned to Chumphon Pak Nam Police Station for further legal proceedings. Pol.Col. Sompol Buranateth said the investigation will first establish the victim’s identity, then collect preliminary information from witnesses and eyewitnesses to reconstruct the event sequence. Although the perpetrator and victim were not personal acquaintances, they worked in the same trade and moored their boats nearby, but on different vessels. The altercation likely arose from a dispute over property that had been stolen. Police will continue legal proceedings, currently in the stage of gathering evidence to determine appropriate charges against the offender.
