Pollution Control Department officials are testing water quality after cage fish died in three subdistricts of Sri Mahaphot district, Prachin Buri province. Samples taken on October 12 are being analyzed, with results expected by October 19. Preliminary measurements show dissolved oxygen between 3.23 and 7.45 mg/L and pH around 6.9, while officials coordinate with local agencies to address possible wastewater issues.
The Pollution Control Department is urgently investigating water quality after cage fish died in three subdistricts of Sri Mahaphot district, Prachin Buri province. On October 12, officials measured water quality in the field and collected surface water samples from four locations, which were sent to the laboratory for analysis of key parameters including biochemical oxygen demand, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, total phosphorus, fecal coliform, oil and grease, heavy metals and other relevant substances. Preliminary results showed dissolved oxygen levels ranging from 3.23 to 7.45 milligrams per liter and pH between 6.87 and 6.96. The department said it cannot yet determine the cause of the fish deaths, with full laboratory results expected by October 19. In addition, on October 13 the department’s Region 7 office joined a meeting with relevant agencies at the Prachin Buri Provincial Hall to coordinate solutions for wastewater problems affecting water sources and fish‑cage farming. The Pollution Control Department pledged to closely monitor the test results and work with partners to pinpoint the cause and implement targeted measures to reduce environmental and community impacts.
