Prince Mahidol Memorial Ceremony Held Across University Campuses
Prince Mahidol Memorial Day ceremonies were held across all five campuses of Prince of Songkla University, with activities emphasizing humanitarian service and community benefit as the institution's primary initiative for 2569.
Prince of Songkla University held memorial ceremonies across all five campuses to honor the late King Mahidol and launched its first annual Benefit of Mankind Day activities for 2025, aiming to benefit society and communities while cultivating a spirit of altruism over self-interest. Administrators, staff, students, government agencies, and private organizations participated uniformly across all five campuses.
At the Hat Yai campus, Assistant Professor Dr. Niwat Kaeopradup, university rector, presided over the ceremony, leading a tribute and laying garlands at the Prince Mahidol statue at the Father's Garden before each department paid respects in turn.
The Student Development and Alumni Relations Division organized activities including alms-giving of rice and dried food to nine Buddhist monks, distribution of school uniforms and equipment to schools affected by flooding at the student activities building in Hat Yai, and blood donation drives organized with Songkla Nakarin Hospital, the Red Cross, and the Chulalongkorn Alumni Association of Songkla Province. An exhibition commemorating Prince Mahidol Memorial Day and the annual Benefit of Mankind Day was held at the Rongsereetrang building.
The Pattani campus held a memorial ceremony with garland-laying at the Prince Mahidol statue, attended by Deputy Governor Chaiyapron Niyamkaew, Assistant Professor Dr. Atthai Ueanantsant, and other officials. The campus also conducted alms-giving to ten Buddhist monks and merit-making activities. The Phuket campus held a garland-laying ceremony on September 24 honoring Prince Mahidol, the father of modern Thai medicine, with participation from university leadership, government, and private sector representatives. The ceremony took place at the Prince Mahidol statue plaza, presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thongchumnuam, deputy rector of the Phuket campus, with candle lighting and floral offerings.
