Prince of Songkhla University's International Affairs and Corporate Communication Center opened the seventh PSU Bazaar on Ground event under the concept "Love of PSU," featuring a food, music, and arts festival imbued with warmth and organized as a low-carbon event. The opening was presided over by Assistant Professor Dr. Niwat Kaewpradub, rector of the university, with welcoming remarks from Assistant Professor Dr. Theersakdi Jindabath, director of the International Affairs and Corporate Communication Center, alongside university executives, representatives from supporting public and private agencies, and a large crowd of participants at the Flag Pole Plaza on the Hat Yai campus on August 1, 2025.

The seventh PSU Bazaar on Ground "Love of PSU" ran from August 1–2, 2025, at the Flag Pole Plaza in front of the Rector's Office, promoting entrepreneurship among students, alumni, staff, and university affiliates by providing a marketplace to sell goods, generate income, exchange business knowledge, and build professional networks across all five university campuses. The event featured over 50 vendors selling savory and sweet foods and beverages, learning zones with garbage separation workshops from the Southern Thailand Love of Birthplace Foundation, educational activities from the university's traveling natural history museum, disaster preparedness games from the Foundation for Media Development of Children and Youth and the Health Promotion Foundation, and the WalkWing walking activity offering event discounts. Musical and dance performances by university student clubs, entertainment from visiting schools, prize giveaways, and the iconic outdoor cinema event rounded out the festival.

Rector Assistant Professor Dr. Niwat Kaewpradub stated that PSU Bazaar on Ground aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation's policy to drive regional economic development and is part of the university's transformation initiatives. The online market "PSU Bazaar" has grown to over 86,000 members and has become highly successful in building a strong economic foundation. The event continues to be organized as a low-carbon event mindful of environmental impact, supporting the university's path toward carbon neutrality.

Assistant Professor Dr. Theersakdi Jindabath, director of the International Affairs and Corporate Communication Center, noted that the PSU Bazaar group was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide members with income through online sales channels. Following pandemic relief, the concept evolved into a small market format called PSU Bazaar on Ground, first held in 2021, and has continued to generate income and stimulate economic circulation. This year's event maintains that tradition of supporting entrepreneurship and community engagement.

2 Aug Khaosod

On August 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Wat Huay Sup in Na Ma Tum subdistrict, Phanat Nikhom district, Chachoengsao province, Nithirut Triwornsukmitr, deputy mayor of Nong Hiang subdistrict administration, along with his wife presented 50,000 firecrackers, a classical dance performance, and 100,000 baht in cash as an offering to Luang Por Yai (the revered abbot) inside the temple's prayer hall amid crowds of worshippers.

Nithirut displayed 32 winning government lottery tickets with the final two digits 69 to reporters. He also showed 10 tickets with number 971479 that narrowly missed the first prize by just two digits—a near-miss that would have been worth over 60 million baht. Despite the narrow loss, he received multiple prizes for the two-digit match.

Nithirut explained that he regularly visits the temple to make merit and request blessings for good fortune from Luang Por Yai. Before the latest lottery drawing, the abbot had given him the number 69, which he then purchased in three additional sets of 10 tickets each for a total of 32. All 32 tickets won the two-digit prize as intended. He also purchased 10 tickets with number 971479, which came within two digits of the first-prize jackpot.

Prior to the lottery, Nithirut had brought a land deed to Luang Por Yai for a blessing before selling it. After successfully selling the property, he made the donation as an act of gratitude and continued merit-making. Following the merit ceremony, other lottery players in attendance examined the winning ticket numbers 35-898 to use as guidance for future lottery purchases, all within an atmosphere of faith and devotion.

"Practice meditation through letting go, not through craving," a teaching from Luang Pho Cha Subhadda of Wat Nong Pa Phong in Ubon Ratchathani. Somdet Phra Sangharaja Krom Luang Chin Wor Siri Watthan, the 11th Sangharaja of Bangkok, was appointed in 1922 during the reign of King Mongkut. His first-edition medal was created in 1923 to commemorate his 65th birthday, with approximately 1,000 pieces cast. The medal measures 2.6 by 3.3 centimeters, featuring the abbreviated initials "C.S." on the front with decorative phoenix motifs and a radiant halo, while the reverse bears a four-line Khmer incantation and the years 1902–1923.

Luang Pu Sai Kemthammo, the revered abbot of Wat Pa Phrom Viharn in Nong Sang District, Nong Bua Lamphu Province, rarely commissioned amulets despite his status. His most notable creation was the "water drop medal" of 1979, which features his seated meditation image on the obverse and ritual implements on the reverse, now becoming increasingly rare.

Luang Pu Song Gunthammo of Wat Ban Sai in Lopburi commissioned the "prosperity medal quarter 57" to raise funds for temple restoration. The oval-shaped medal features a raised half-figure image on the front and a yantra of 16 deities on the reverse, inscribed with the temple name and location.

Luang Pho Maha Bodhi Yamasangvaro, former abbot of Wat Khlong Morn in Chainat Province, cast an ancient-style brass medal in 1988 as a memorial when constructing a hall dedicated to his teacher. The medal features a spade-shaped profile with a seated figure and flat reverse, blessed throughout a complete quarter with the mantra "Buddham Vom Lok" followed by "Itipiso." This rare medal was produced in limited quantities.

Revered Abbot Luang Pho Heed Remembered Through Sacred Coins

Revered Abbot Luang Pho Heed Remembered Through Sacred Coins
2 Aug Khaosod

Phra Kru Srutsdi Sikhhathorn, or Luang Pho Heed Chanthasaro, was a distinguished Buddhist monk at Wat Phleung in Ratchaburi province. Born in 1865 to parents Chim and Kim Sukontham in Wat Phleung subdistrict, he was the eldest of seven siblings in a gardening family. He took monastic vows in 1902 and devoted himself to studying Vipassana meditation and Buddhist doctrine under his teacher Luang Pho Phlang. When his teacher passed away, the villagers requested that he become the abbot, a position he accepted in 1917 and held throughout his life.

During his tenure, Luang Pho Heed worked to develop the temple and uplift the spiritual conduct of the community. Recognizing that local children had nowhere to study except under the temple eaves, he began construction of a public school in 1925 by selling his own land. When funds proved scarce, he obtained royal permission from King Rama VI to fundraise, ultimately collecting 10,932.30 baht—largely from donors in Suphan Buri province—and completing the school, named Wat Phleung School (Heed Sradtha Prachanukul), on January 1, 1934.

After his death, local residents sought the original royal petition he had used for fundraising, intending to have it made into an amulet. One petition was discovered in an old bell chest, bearing the royal inscription granting permission for Phra Atcharn Heed to raise funds for the school. The document featured three corner yantras and three Khmer characters.

In 1934, in recognition of his virtues and abilities, Luang Pho Heed was appointed head of the Sangha assembly at Wat Phleung and received the ecclesiastical title Phra Kru Srutsdi Sikhhathorn on January 16, 1934. He died of old age in 1947 at the age of 82 and in his 45th year as a monk, deeply mourned by the community.

During his lifetime, Luang Pho Heed created many amulets and talismans, but the most famous were the first-edition coins. Unlike some revered monks who produced portrait coins during their lives, he did not create portrait coins; his sacred objects were primarily amulets and talismans. The first-edition coins were produced after his death in 1947 as memorials for those who attended his funeral.

Doctors Warn: Bone Pain and Fatigue May Signal Blood Cancer
2 Aug Khaosod

Doctors are warning that persistent bone pain and unexplained fatigue should not be dismissed—they may signal multiple myeloma, a blood cancer stemming from abnormal plasma cells in bone marrow. Early detection significantly improves the chances of effective treatment and disease management. Dr. Liu Bo-ren, a Taiwanese physician specializing in nutritional and functional medicine, recently shared on Facebook about a patient who sought evaluation for unexplained bone pain and prolonged fatigue, only to be diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma cases have been rising in recent years. Doctors note that the incidence of this disease has shown an upward trend over the past few years. The condition develops when plasma cells—white blood cells responsible for producing antibodies—undergo malignant mutation and multiply abnormally within the bone marrow. This leads to reduced normal blood cell production and generation of abnormal proteins capable of destroying the kidneys and bones.

Remember symptoms using the "CRAB" rule. Because the disease presents with diverse symptoms and is easily misdiagnosed, doctors recommend monitoring symptoms through the simple "CRAB" mnemonic:

1. C (Calcium): High blood calcium levels result from bone destruction, causing calcium to leak into the bloodstream. This triggers thirst, frequent urination, constipation, and in severe cases, confusion or loss of consciousness.

2. R (Renal): Kidney dysfunction occurs when abnormal proteins from cancer cells clog kidney units, causing protein leakage in urine, foamy urine, and leg swelling.

3. A (Anemia): When cancer cells infiltrate bone marrow, red blood cell production declines, leading to easy fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision, or shortness of breath.

4. B (Bone): Bone abnormalities are the most common symptom, particularly back pain, chest pain, or chronic bone pain. In some cases, bones may fracture spontaneously without significant trauma.

Four at-risk groups to watch. Although the precise cause remains unclear, several factors may increase risk: age 60 and older; males (slightly higher incidence than females); prolonged exposure to chemicals or toxins such as pesticides, herbicides, dioxins, or heavy metals; and obesity or chronic inflammation, which may trigger abnormal cell division.

Treatment emphasizes disease control and quality of life. Current treatment aims to control disease progression, extend patient survival, and reduce complications. Approaches include targeted therapy, immunotherapy, steroids, chemotherapy, and stem cell transplantation in eligible patients. Doctors emphasize that treatment goals extend beyond eliminating cancer cells to reducing side effects and improving patient quality of life. Nutritional care may be integrated with primary treatment, such as managing inflammation, protecting bone and kidney health, and addressing nutritional needs per medical advice.

Home care is equally important. Patients should prioritize daily health management: prevent infection through mask-wearing, regular handwashing, and avoiding raw foods due to weakened immunity; prevent falls since bones are fragile and fracture easily; and monitor urine abnormalities such as foaming or changes in volume.
