Rangers Return Fire After Gunmen Open Up at Pattani Checkpoint
Rangers at a Pattani checkpoint exchanged gunfire with armed suspects on motorcycles who refused to stop for inspection; all officers escaped unharmed and authorities are searching a nearby village for leads.
Rangers from the 44th Special Operations Regiment's Company 4407 came under fire during a checkpoint operation in Manangdalam subdistrict, Satun District, Pattani Province. Officers spotted two suspicious motorcycles with four riders approaching the checkpoint with suspicious behavior and called them to stop for inspection, but the suspects refused and drew weapons, triggering an exchange of gunfire. The rangers returned fire in self-defense before the suspects fled the scene on their motorcycles; all officers remained unharmed. Following initial leads, authorities have cordoned off and are searching a suspect house in Gagarae village approximately one kilometer from the incident site, and have appealed to the public to avoid the area and stay informed through official government channels.
