Pickup Truck Hits Motorcycle, 14-Year-Old Student Killed
A 14-year-old student died when a pickup truck hit his motorcycle on a rural highway in Chumphon; the truck driver fled the scene before police arrived.
At 6:30 p.m. on September 18, Chumphon Municipal Police received a report of a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Rural Highway 360, the shortcut into Chumphon town in Bang Luek subdistrict, Chumphon district. The accident occurred on a two-way road, causing traffic congestion as onlookers gathered at the scene.
Two Grade 8 male students, both 14 years old, were injured in the collision. One victim was in critical condition with no initial pulse. The medical team from Chumphon Khaetkao Hospital rushed to provide emergency care and CPR, but the victim died shortly afterward.
Investigators found a black Honda PCX 150 motorcycle overturned on the outbound side of the road with severe front-end damage and parts scattered 3-4 meters from the impact point. A blue Isuzu pickup truck with a low bed was parked on the inbound side, facing the opposite direction, with collision damage visible on the left side above the front wheel.
However, the pickup truck driver was not at the scene when officers arrived, having apparently fled before police reached the location. Officers are actively pursuing the driver for questioning.
Local witnesses reported seeing the pickup truck reversing in the dimly lit area just before hearing a loud collision. The motorcycle's owner stated his son initially drove the bike before letting a friend take it for a ride.
Police have collected evidence from the scene including vehicle condition, impact point, and witness statements. They are working to locate the pickup truck driver to investigate the circumstances of the accident and determine liability before proceeding with legal action.
