Comedian Outraged After Likay Shelter Burned Down
A comedian condemned an arsonist who burned down a likay performance shelter in the early morning hours, narrowly avoiding tragedy when a performer woke to discover the fire before others inside could be harmed.
A well-known comedian has expressed anger after someone set fire to a likay performance shelter belonging to a close junior group late at night, with people sleeping inside at the time. Fortunately, one of the likay performers woke up to use the bathroom and spotted the fire, allowing them to escape.
On September 18, the comedian posted about the incident on social media, saying the arsonist went too far. He questioned why someone would resort to burning down the shelter when the performers were only there to make a living, noting the fire was set between 4 and 5 a.m. He emphasized that if the fire had not been discovered in time, the consequences could have been much worse. The group had only planned to stay three more days before relocating anyway.
The comedian stressed that the area belongs to a temple, not to the arsonist, and the temple had already given permission for the likay shows. He called on people to simply avoid attending if they dislike the performances, rather than resorting to violence or destruction. He expressed sympathy for the junior likay group, describing them as a legitimate, hardworking performance ensemble with no connection to crime. He criticized the arsonist for going to such extremes, saying they should not harm others just because they do not support their activities. The incident highlights a conflict between local residents and the likay performers using temple grounds for their shows.
