A popular entertainer has apologized to the Buddhist leadership of Lampang province after performing in monk-like robes and singing obscene content on stage. The performer claims to have acted without awareness of the offense and denies any intention to mock Buddhism.
On September 13, a video circulated showing the entertainer dressed in yellow robes resembling those of a Buddhist monk, performing suggestive movements and singing a popular song. The performance sparked widespread criticism over its appropriateness, prompting the Lampang Provincial Buddhist Office to file a complaint with Lampang City Police for full legal action.
On September 16, the entertainer and their representative lawyer visited Phra Rajjinvachirapon, the chief Buddhist monk of Lampang province, and the abbot of Phra Kaew Don Tao Temple to ask for forgiveness. The chief monk granted the request with mercy, while legal proceedings are to continue as prescribed by law. The entertainer issued a public apology, stating they acted without full awareness and had no intention to ridicule Buddhism, and asked forgiveness from residents and the Buddhist community of Lampang. They pledged to make improvements and assured that such an incident would not happen again.
