Election Commission Clarifies 4-3 Vote Against DSI Evidence
The Election Commission voted 4-3 to reject financial records from the Department of Special Investigation for reviewing a Senate election irregularities petition, citing that no such petition had been formally received at the time.
On September 16, the Election Commission Office released a statement clarifying its 4-3 vote decision to reject financial records from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) for use in reviewing a petition to investigate Senate election irregularities. The Election Commission examined meeting minutes from its fourth session on January 12, 2025, and found that the commission voted 4-3 against accepting copies of evidence, other related documentation, and opinions from the DSI or authorized officials pertaining to Special Investigation Case No. 24/2568. During the meeting discussion, commissioners noted that they had not yet received the Senate election investigation petition from the Ad Hoc Committee for Adjudicating and Settling Issues or Disputes, Group 36, and therefore had not requested documentation from the DSI. The meeting minutes contained no mention or proposal of financial transaction details regarding any individual for commission consideration. Additionally, throughout 11 meetings held to review the Senate election investigation petition, no commissioner requested that Special Investigation Case No. 24/2568 be included in the review.
