Teen Dies in Motorcycle Crash with 18-Wheel Truck
Police say a 17-year-old student died after his motorcycle collided with the rear of an 18-wheel truck on the Asian Highway in Ayutthaya Province. The boy, who had just been admitted to a prestigious university, was found unconscious with serious head injuries; his father urged him to keep fighting before he died at hospital. Authorities are investigating the crash.
The father said he was shocked when he heard the news that his 17-year-old son, who had just gained admission to Silpakorn University, was riding his motorcycle home from a study session when he slammed into the back of an 18-wheel truck. The impact left the teen unconscious with serious head injuries; rescuers performed CPR before rushing him to Ratchathani Hospital, where the father arrived and urged him, 'Keep fighting, son,' before the boy passed away. Police Lieutenant Khamphon Intiewong of Uthai Police Station reported that the crash occurred at 23:30 on October 7 on the Asian Highway outbound, at kilometer 19 in the main lane, Moo 1, Thanu Subdistrict, Uthai District, Ayutthaya Province. Officers found the teenager, identified only as 'A', lying unconscious on the road with head and forehead wounds. The Yamaha MT-03 motorcycle he was riding lay overturned nearby, while the Volvo truck and its Ayutthaya-registered trailer were parked on the shoulder with hazard lights on, showing damage at the rear. The truck driver, 63-year-old Prasert (surname withheld), said he had been driving in the parallel lane before moving into the main lane when the motorcycle struck the trailer’s rear, prompting him to pull over and assist. Investigators have photographed the scene and vehicles, will take statements from the driver and witnesses, and are determining the cause before proceeding with legal action.
