Respected University Academic Found Dead After Four-Day Absence

A respected university academic was found dead in his rented home after failing to show up for four days of classes. At noon on September 9, Joh Ho Station commander Sivapath Puangjanthorn received word of a death at a home in Sunaree Ville development in Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and rushed to the scene with rescue volunteers from Unit 31. The front door was locked, so firefighters forced their way inside. In the bedroom they discovered the body of a Thai man who had been dead for at least four days. The deceased was Woradet Maisangrutrakul, 50, an academic staff member in the Thai Language Program at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University.

Investigation found no evidence of foul play or involvement by any other person. The body was transferred to Maharaj Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima for forensic autopsy. According to the investigation, Woradet was a dedicated academic who had earned his doctorate and lived alone. He had not reported for duty since the previous weekend and had not responded when close friends tried to reach him through multiple channels. When friends became unable to contact him, they went to his home, found the door locked, and received no answer to their calls, so they contacted authorities to force entry and discovered his death. Preliminary findings suggest the death may have resulted from a health condition that worsened, with no one present to provide help.
