Restaurant Display Payment Program Sign But Won't Process It
A Prachuap Khiri Khan restaurant displayed a Thai Help Thai Plus subsidy sign but couldn't process payments through the program, telling the customer they weren't yet set up despite promoting it outside.
A Facebook user posted in the 'We Are Consumers' group describing a visit to a restaurant in Prachuap Khiri Khan with a Thai Help Thai Plus program sign displayed outside. After ordering food costing about 500 baht and calculating it would fit within the subsidy, the customer asked to pay using the scheme. The restaurant replied it was not yet set up for the program. When asked why the sign was posted, staff said customers needed to ask first. The customer paid normally and suggested the restaurant remove the sign, which they then did.
The restaurant later issued a statement explaining that the employee involved did not intend to deceive and that they had decided not to participate in the program. According to their explanation, the employee had recently changed phones and had not yet downloaded the wallet app from management, so the program was not operational. The restaurant had participated for two months before switching phones. The owner acknowledged the cashier may have spoken poorly and said they had already disciplined the employee. The restaurant apologized to the customer for the misunderstanding and poor service.
