Former Teacher Admits Scam, Sold Motorcycles While Posing as Educator

A former contract teacher admitted to scamming a subdistrict officer out of over 514,000 baht by posing as single on a dating app in June 2025, while secretly married to a naval officer she was divorcing.

Former Teacher Admits Scam, Sold Motorcycles While Posing as Educator

A woman known as 'Kru Nam' (Water Teacher), a contract teacher, has admitted to leaving her job and now sells motorcycles, but keeps a photo of herself in a white teacher's uniform on her bedroom wall as motivation. She made no use of it elsewhere.

On August 18, 2025, the podcast programme "Pulling the Current" hosted by Noam Karachai presented the story of 'Khun Tae,' a subdistrict administration officer, who came forward seeking justice through the "Sai Mai Tong Rawt" channel. He alleged that Kru Nam, a contract teacher, deceived him into falling in love and convinced him to transfer over 300,000 baht as a bride price, plus another 200,000 baht for other purposes.

The acquaintance began on June 14, 2025, through a dating application. Kru Nam claimed to be single and had just downloaded the app to try it out. They exchanged contact details, and after chatting for a while, they met on July 10 and agreed to be a couple. The man said he was impressed when she offered to help him further his education.

Khun Tae recounted that he first transferred 28,000 baht on July 20 for tuition fees. On July 21, he made two more transfers: 70,000 baht in the morning for studies and 300,000 baht in the evening as a bride price to move in with her. He moved in on July 22 and transferred an additional 23,000 baht on July 23. In total, he transferred over 514,800 baht.

The truth emerged on August 3 when Khun Tae's friend grew suspicious and investigated, discovering Kru Nam's wedding photos. On August 4, the friend confirmed that Kru Nam's husband is a naval officer and that they had just registered their divorce that very morning—yet earlier that same morning, Kru Nam had lied to Khun Tae, claiming she was having breakfast with friends.

Kru Nam admitted that she had married her naval officer husband on May 10, 2025, only one month before contacting Khun Tae in June. She claimed they had separated at the beginning of June and that she was looking for someone to heal her heartbreak and avoid further disappointment.

When questioned about her occupation and the photos in a white teacher's uniform, Kru Nam acknowledged that she is no longer a teacher. Previously she was a contract teacher and a childminder at a private school before she resigned and became a motorcycle salesperson. Regarding the white uniform photos, she admitted they exist but claimed they were only meant to inspire herself to pass the teacher recruitment exam, which is her dream. She said she hung them in her home and did not use them anywhere else.

Evidence was then presented showing that Kru Nam had posted a series of photos online ranging from her school days through graduation photos and the white uniform, with a caption stating: "I studied my whole life to work at school for the rest of my life." Akaphop, from the Sai Mai Tong Rawt channel, pointed out that posting this way could mislead others.

Thai PM Pitches Australia Businesses on Regional Gateway

Thai PM pitched Australia as Thailand's investment base to access ASEAN's 700 million consumers, addressing business leaders in Sydney and highlighting five priority sectors for expanded bilateral cooperation.

Thai PM Pitches Australia Businesses on Regional Gateway
19h ago Khaosod

At 4 p.m. on August 18, 2025 (Sydney local time, three hours ahead of Thailand) at Crown Towers in Sydney, Prime Minister Anuthine Charnvirakul and the Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed the Thailand–Australia Investment and Business Partnership Reception, with the theme "Thailand and Australia, A Strategic Partnership for Growth." Government and business representatives from both countries attended, as the Prime Minister invited Australian businesses to use Thailand as an investment base and a gateway to the ASEAN market of nearly 700 million people.

The Prime Minister noted that 2026 will mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Australia, during which both countries have built strong foundations in trade, investment, and people-to-people connections. This visit is not merely about continuing government-level relations, but represents an opportunity to bridge the business sectors and transform long-standing ties into new investments, jobs, and economic opportunities. The government's role is to open doors and create a conducive environment, while the private sector drives tangible results.

Amidst global economic uncertainty stemming from geopolitical tensions, technology, and supply chain disruptions, Thailand prioritizes building economic resilience and immunity through robust business ecosystems, technology promotion, innovation, and cooperation networks with partner nations to enable Thai and regional economic growth amid change.

Regionally, Thailand—as one of ASEAN's founding members and the incoming ASEAN chair in 2027—aims to strengthen regional connectivity and resilience by expanding economic cooperation and supply chain networks to make ASEAN more robust, interconnected, and competitive.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Thailand's strengths extend beyond its domestic market size to include strategic location, industrial base, infrastructure, and trading networks linked to other nations. Investing and producing in Thailand therefore provides access not just to Thailand's 66 million people, but connects to ASEAN's nearly 700 million consumers with increasing trade integration and supply chain harmonization.

"Investing and producing in Thailand means entering not a single market, but an entire region," the Prime Minister said.

On Thailand–Australia economic cooperation, the Prime Minister stated that both countries have a strong foundation from the Thailand–Australia Free Trade Agreement, in effect for over two decades. With complementary economic structures, he identified five key areas for expanded cooperation: agriculture and food, renewable energy and energy storage, digital and creative industries, advanced manufacturing, and education.

The Prime Minister noted that investor confidence in Thailand remains robust, with investment promotion applications submitted to the Board of Investment reaching a record approximately 80,000 million Australian dollars in 2024, a 67 percent increase from the previous year.

Former MP Questions Silence on Local Exam Fraud Case

Former Phatthalung MP questions why authorities haven't used witness protection to expose higher-level officials in a local exam fraud case involving altered scores.

Former MP Questions Silence on Local Exam Fraud Case
19h ago Khaosod

Former Phatthalung MP Nipith Inthasombat posted on his personal Facebook account addressing the issue of local government exam fraud. In his post, he stated: "If I were your politician, I would bring those who took the local exam and are accused of cheating by altering scores to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). I would negotiate with the NACC that if they grant him witness protection, he would testify truthfully about who he gave money to, so the NACC can pursue charges against higher-level perpetrators such as politicians. It is now time for the Thai state to decide whether to target 'small fish' or 'big fish' corruption. This is the only way to effectively combat corruption and pursue cases against intermediaries who received money and those at higher levels. I am not your politician—so what have your politicians done to combat corruption in this country? Or are your politicians themselves corrupt, taking money to buy votes during elections?"

Woman Demands Temple Documents from Buddhist Affairs Office

A 62-year-old woman visited Thailand's National Buddhist Affairs Office seeking to verify documents about a temple's establishment in Khon Kaen Province after discovering it isn't registered in the national database.

19h ago Khaosod

At 1 p.m. on August 18, 2025, Chommanee Noi Chanthon, a 62-year-old woman known as Paa Daa, visited the National Buddhist Affairs Office on Buddhaphalomanee Road 4, Salaya Subdistrict, Buddhaphalomanee District, Nakhon Pathom Province, to request examination of documents regarding the establishment of Wat Pa Adulyaram in Muang District, Khon Kaen Province. She sought to verify whether the temple was properly authorized according to Buddhist Affairs regulations and monastic law. Her inquiry follows her discovery that the temple's name does not appear in the National Buddhist Affairs Office registry. Director Theerdej Chantratthan accepted her request on behalf of the office.

Paa Daa clarified that she seeks to verify crucial documents including temple establishment permits, petitions, and all related papers, not to reclaim land. She stated her family has requested document access for years through multiple appeals without success. The office has scheduled her document examination for Friday afternoon, August 21. Paa Daa emphasized that all parties deserve the chance to verify facts, and if her family is mistaken, they will accept the truth. She noted that negative social media commentary has severely affected family members' health, and she simply wants to find the truth. She confirmed through data from Khon Kaen's Buddhist Affairs office that the land title remains under the name of a person called Heiang, and her family holds a land title certificate dated 1933, asserting the area is not public land but privately held land claimed decades ago. Regarding claims the area was historically a mass burial forest, Paa Daa acknowledged it was once forest, but noted that those claiming land had to declare their right to pursue legal land title documentation, though she withheld conclusions pending document review. When asked about possible summons to Khon Kaen Province, she said no family member has yet received one and wants to first examine the Buddhist Affairs documents before deciding on further action. She expressed confidence the director will provide the requested documents and stated the family is not seeking to reclaim land now but wishes to follow proper procedure. She concluded: "Let me see the documents first, then we'll talk. I am a person, not a criminal. Before condemning the family, I ask that you verify and listen to us too."

Malaysian Tourists Threaten Hat Yai Boycott Over Traffic Fines

A Malaysian tourist's viral video claiming 17 motorcyclists were unfairly fined 15,000 baht in Hat Yai has triggered boycott calls, though police say only nine vehicles violated traffic laws with fines totaling 12,000 baht.

Malaysian Tourists Threaten Hat Yai Boycott Over Traffic Fines
19h ago Khaosod

A social media post by a Malaysian tourist threatening to boycott Hat Yai has sparked debate after a group of Malaysian motorcyclists were fined by Thai police for traffic violations.

The Facebook user, who goes by the name Tok Singa, posted a video claiming that his group of 17 Malaysian motorcyclists received 15 tickets totaling about 15,000 baht during a traffic inspection by Hat Yai Police.

The post alleged that only one police officer handled the inspection, which took nearly three hours. It also claimed the group was threatened with detention if they delayed paying the fines, while some riders said their motorcycles still had factory-standard exhaust pipes and that police did not accept digital driving licences.

The video went viral and included a call for Malaysians to boycott Hat Yai, a popular destination for Malaysian tourists.

Hat Yai Police, however, disputed several of the claims.

Police Sergeant Major Veerasak Phansaeman, the officer involved in the incident, said he was directing traffic outside Hat Yai Police Station when he noticed a group of about 17 motorcycles from Malaysia.

Some motorcycles had modified flashing rear lights, while others appeared to have excessively loud exhaust systems, he said. Officers followed the group and stopped them at Dam Bridge intersection before bringing the motorcycles to the police station for a detailed inspection of documents, compulsory insurance, driving licences and vehicle equipment.

After inspecting all 17 motorcycles, police found violations involving nine vehicles and issued nine tickets, with total fines of 12,000 baht — not 15 tickets totaling 15,000 baht as claimed in the social media post.

Individual fines ranged from 1,000 to 3,000 baht, depending on the violation.

Veerasak said police used a sound-level meter in accordance with legal requirements when checking motorcycle exhaust noise. Officers first checked the manufacturer's noise-level plate, allowing an additional 5 decibels where applicable. If no plate was available, the limit was determined by the vehicle's registration date.

Motorcycles registered before 2024 are subject to a maximum limit of 95 decibels, while those registered from 1 January 2024 are limited to 90 decibels, he said.

Veerasak said officers explained the regulations to the Malaysian tourists and denied that police had mistreated or singled them out because they were foreigners.

"The video distorted some of the facts," he said, adding that officers had followed legal procedures and treated foreign tourists and Thai motorists equally.

He urged visitors driving into Thailand to familiarize themselves with local traffic laws and comply with them.

"Even though we are concerned about the impact on the tourism image, officers must uphold the law," Veerasak said.

He added that he did not expect the incident to have a significant impact on Hat Yai's tourism industry, saying most visitors comply with Thai laws.

A 34-year-old woman staying alone at a Hat Yai hotel was left frightened after a male guest repeatedly knocked on her door and allegedly used a key to open it around 04:00 on the night of 16-17 August. The man walked along the corridor knocking on several doors before coming to hers, then allegedly used a key to unlock her door. Although an interior security chain prevented him from entering fully, he reportedly reached through the opening and attempted to remove the chain. The woman immediately called hotel staff for help. The man was reportedly staying in a neighboring room and had allegedly behaved similarly two or three times before. Hotel staff only came to check the situation and took no further action, prompting the woman to file a complaint at Kho Hong Police Station in Hat Yai district, seeking legal action for alleged trespassing. She expressed concern about what could have happened if the man had managed to enter the room. Pol Col Apichart Wannako, chief of Kho Hong Police Station, ordered investigators to urgently collect evidence, including CCTV footage, to pursue legal action.

Thai Diving Coach Recalled to Prep Athletes for 2026 Asian Games

Thailand recalls Chinese diving coach Baiyun Ping to prepare two elite divers for the 2026 Asian Games after budget constraints prevented sending them to train in China.

Thai Diving Coach Recalled to Prep Athletes for 2026 Asian Games
19h ago Khaosod

Thailand's diving team is preparing for the 2026 Asian Games by bringing back Coach Baiyun Ping, a former Chinese national coach, to train two Thai athletes. Head coach Suchart Pichi explained that the team initially sought budget approval to send divers Thitiphumi Maksin and Chavalavat Chanphodawanl to train in China, but budget constraints led to inviting Coach Baiyun Ping to Thailand instead.

Coach Baiyun Ping, who previously coached Thailand's national diving team, is helping refine diving techniques and build strength in the two leading Thai athletes. The athletes are adjusting to his more intense training regimen, which is more demanding than their previous preparation. The diving federation also invited Ping to share knowledge and experience with Thailand's youth national team at Thammasat University's aquatic center.

Permanent employment of Coach Baiyun Ping is unlikely due to health constraints limiting long-term team management, though short-term assignments remain possible. Ping noted that Thai diving athletes are talented but lack internationally standard training equipment. Training in China provides better facilities, though he would willingly coach in Thailand if proper equipment becomes available. Ping previously served as Mexico's diving coach starting in 2005, leading them to a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games before his return to assist Thailand.

Officials Treat Injured Wild Elephant in Kanchanaburi
19h ago Khaosod

On August 18, 2025, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Suchart Chomklin revealed that he received a progress report from Arthapol Jarengsunthasana, director-general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, regarding the tracking and treatment of a wild elephant named Sidor, approximately 40 years old, injured in its left hind leg. The elephant was located in forest near Ban Wang Dang village, Wang Dang Subdistrict, Muang Kanchanaburi District, Kanchanaburi Province, outside the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary.

A team of veterinarians from Conservation Area Administration 3 (Ban Pong) worked with Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary officers to track and treat the elephant continuously. On August 17, staff used drones to search known locations but found no trace until 9:30 p.m., when residents reported a wild elephant in the area. Drone surveillance confirmed it was Sidor foraging in dense forest, with two other wild elephants nearby.

Officials coordinated a three-part operation: a drone team to monitor movement and establish safety zones, ground staff to encourage the elephant away from dense forest and prevent grouping with other elephants, and a veterinary team to provide treatment from a safe distance. By 1:00 a.m. on August 18, the operation succeeded, with staff administering two injections—an anti-inflammatory and a painkiller—to Sidor. All personnel remained safe.

"I thank and commend the veterinary team from Conservation Area Administration 3 and all Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary staff who worked with full dedication despite operating at night in difficult jungle conditions with other wild elephants present, which posed serious risk," Suchart said. "Yet they remained committed to helping and caring for Sidor completely."

The minister instructed staff to maintain close observation of Sidor's behavior and condition through rotating shifts to assess progress and plan ongoing treatment. He also appealed to local residents to avoid approaching or disturbing wild elephants if sighted and to report immediately to officials so operations can proceed safely for both the public and wildlife.

Thailand Launches Free Solar Panel Installation Program
19h ago Khaosod

The Energy Ministry is pushing the "solar rooftop" program, enabling citizens to install solar panels for free with no upfront payment, repaying costs through their electricity bills using monthly savings. Conclusions are expected within a month. Energy Ministry spokesperson Pongsapol Yodemuangcharoen said the ministry, led by Energy Minister Eknathai Saipangphan, has removed critical barriers by eliminating restrictions and streamlining the solar installation permit process to completion within seven days, and grid connection approvals to 30 days—previously taking a year. The government has also expanded clean energy purchases from the public by an additional 500 megawatts and is implementing the Finance Ministry's 500 million baht budget initiative to support rooftop solar installations. State financial institutions including the Government Savings Bank and Government Housing Bank will provide low-interest lending through an "install free, pay via electricity bill" model with these details: No upfront cost—the state subsidizes approximately 50,000 baht per household, targeting one million homes, plus low-interest credit (2-4 percent annually) from state banks. Repayment from electricity savings—participants use monthly electricity bill reductions to pay monthly installments. Immediate results—a 5kW system produces roughly 600 units monthly, saving approximately 2,150–2,200 baht per month; with payback in 5-7 years, monthly payments remain lower than savings, so residents see reduced electricity costs from the first month. "This elevates Thais to 'Prosumers'—both producers and consumers—or energy entrepreneurs achieving energy independence. Every 1,000 megawatts of rooftop solar Thailand produces reduces average electricity costs by 0.9 satang per unit. If this one-million-rooftop initiative succeeds—equivalent to 5,000 megawatts—it will cut expensive LNG imports and permanently reduce the national average electricity rate by nearly 5 satang per unit. This policy benefits all stakeholders: citizens reduce expenses, the state cuts energy imports, and the world gains clean power. We await clarity on the program model from the utility and expect conclusions in about a month. I want to see the million-rooftop solar initiative realized in Thailand and am ready to champion this policy to the fullest," Pongsapol said.

At 9:30 a.m. on August 18, 2025, Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Police from Phrom Khiri Station received a report that a suspect with an arrest warrant had rammed a police vehicle and fled. Officers pursued a red Isuzu pickup truck heading toward Tha Sala District. When the suspect reached a fruit orchard in Mueang Subdistrict, Tha Sala District, he realized he was cornered and opened fire on officers to create an escape route, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was struck and critically wounded, while officers remained safe. He was given first aid and transported to Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital.

The suspect was identified as Piyanat (surname withheld), 34, wanted under Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Court warrant number 113/2569 issued February 23, 2025, on charges of conspiracy to commit serious drug offenses and unauthorized sale of methamphetamine, Category 1 drug. Police found bullet holes in the truck's rear bed and back window, and forensic officers were called to examine the vehicle. The arrest occurred during an operation called "Fah Sang Klang Meung Khon" (Clear the City Centre), a citywide firearms and explosives sweep. When officers arrived to search the suspect's home, he resisted, attempted to ram the truck into police multiple times, and then opened fire. He was wounded critically in the exchange and remains in custody for legal proceedings.
