Road Subsidence Near Parliament Blamed on Water Pipeline Work
A 20-centimetre road collapse on Samsen Street near Parliament House on September 7 was caused by water pipeline replacement work, with Bangkok Water Authority contractors now rushing repairs.
The Dusit District Office reported a 20-centimetre subsidence on Samsen Street outside Parliament House on September 7. District Director Waranya Leelaboonpongse and the engineering department inspected the site alongside assistant director Thanpong Khamthong, municipal staff, and traffic police from Bang Po Station to oversee repairs.
Investigators found the collapse occurred along the Bangkok Water Authority's new pipeline project, which involves installing 1.2-metre-diameter pipes to replace smaller 80-centimetre and 1-metre lines throughout Samsen Street. Bangkok Water Authority contractors have already arrived on site and are rushing repairs to restore the road surface safely and quickly.
Traffic police and municipal staff have cordoned off the subsidence zone with traffic cones between Khiao Khai intersection and Kiakkai intersection, managing traffic flow to minimise disruption to commuters. The district office said it will provide further updates as work progresses.
