Santhirai Academy has entered both boys and girls teams in the under-15 Prime Minister's Youth Cup volleyball championship, targeting selection as Chiang Mai Province's representative. The Prime Minister's Youth Cup programme, initiated under Tourism and Sports Minister Suraskul Panjcharoenvorakul, features football and volleyball competitions to create pathways for youth into future national team representation.
The volleyball competition is structured for athletes aged 15 and under, with both boys and girls divisions. Schools nationwide participate beginning at district level, with winners advancing through provincial and regional stages to compete for the national championship.
Santhirai Academy, from San Sai District in Chiang Mai, is one of the schools fielding both boys and girls volleyball teams. The teams are coached by Amp Thavalrat Kanthor and Ed, physical education teachers who built the squads about one year ago when students entered secondary school level one. Though recently formed, both teams have achieved notable results—the boys team earned runners-up status in the Chiang Mai volleyball development tournament, while the girls team placed fourth at the district level before entering this Prime Minister's Youth Cup competition.
Coach Amp revealed that the players are highly motivated, stating: "All the students are thrilled that the school is sending both boys and girls teams to the Prime Minister's Youth Cup. Everyone is training with full dedication and commitment."
Amp added: "Beyond our shared goal of representing Chiang Mai Province and competing at regional and potentially national level, our mission is developing these young athletes to create opportunities for their future advancement."
