Senate Approves Amnesty Bill With Youth Article 112 Protections

The Senate passed an amnesty bill 103-3 that bars youth offenders from reconciliation under Article 112, with committee members denying the measure protects anyone facing election-related charges.

1d ago Khaosod

The Senate passed the draft amnesty bill with 103 votes on June 30, 2569, during a session chaired by Deputy Senate President Bunsong Noisophon. The special committee led by Pol. Col. Chatrawat Saengphet completed its review of the draft Social Reconciliation Promotion Act in both stage 2 and stage 3 readings. The committee's majority made several amendments, including adding a preamble, revising four specific articles, and updating the bill's appendix.

During stage 2 deliberation, the Senate approved the committee's changes, notably adding a new clause to Article 11 regarding minors accused of crimes. The new provision stipulates that Article 112 offenses—related to insulting the monarchy—are explicitly excluded from amnesty consideration for juveniles.

Senator Ratchaneekon Thongtip raised concerns about whether the amended appendix might inadvertently create amnesty loopholes for election-related crimes. Pisit Abiwatpongpong, serving as committee secretary, clarified that the appendix contains 29 laws and the committee merely reorganized them by legal precedence without altering their substance. He emphasized that the provision on Senate member qualifications is unrelated to electoral fraud and that no senators are amnestied regarding such cases, which remain under the Election Commission's purview.

The final vote showed 103 senators in favor, 3 opposed, and 22 abstaining. The Senate also agreed with the committee's recommendation that the Social Reconciliation Promotion Committee should propose penal management guidelines to the Justice Ministry and Department of Corrections for individuals convicted of political expression crimes who are not amnestied, supporting Thailand's broader peace-building goals through rehabilitation and democratic principles.

Actor Big Returns With New Drama Role After Two-Year Hiatus

Actor Big recently returned to TV dramas after a two-year break, now working as a freelancer and appearing in the period drama "Tuk Anu Ruedthai" on 7HD alongside fellow actor Ice, whom he recently confirmed dating after knowing her for ove

1d ago Khaosod

Young actor Big Nattaraschaya Charusmas has returned to television after a two-year absence, taking on the role of Norinthorn, a composed young doctor in the period drama "Took Onu Ruthai" on Channel 7HD. The role marks a significant character departure for the actor.

Big recently updated fans on his current projects and personal life with girlfriend Ice Atichinan Srisawak.

When asked about his current work, Big shared: "I'm currently in the drama 'Took Onu Ruthai' on Channel 7HD and also a vertical series on TrueID."

Regarding the challenges of the period drama, Big explained: "Playing a period piece is quite difficult, especially portraying a doctor. The language and terminology of historical doctors differ from modern times, though the medical principles remain the same. Medical instruments and technology were vastly different back then. I had to study how they treated patients historically. For me personally, the dialogue is the biggest challenge. Some historical phrases don't come naturally to my lips, and some words are unclear, but I try to deliver them as naturally as possible."

Asked about the industry slowdown, Big revealed: "For the past two years, there haven't been many acting jobs. There were occasional short films and invitations, but not many long dramas. The industry landscape has changed, and I understand that the world evolves quickly. Sometimes working alone, I miss being on set—I've been in the industry for 12-13 years since childhood. But I've had to accept the gaps in work and focus on personal development, maintaining myself physically and mentally, staying ready whenever opportunities come. If acting work comes, I'll continue accepting it as before."

On the vertical series format, Big said: "A senior invited me to audition. When I tried it, I realized it's still acting, but the pacing is faster because the monitor screen is smaller. Working in a single frame requires different technique. Usually I like expressive movements, but in a narrow frame I have to be careful, and the editing pace is much quicker."

Asked about now being a freelance actor, Big confirmed: "Yes, I've been a freelance actor for two and a half years now. I can work with any channel, though I've continued with Channel 7 when they've called. When I decided not to renew my contract, I had to move forward and encourage myself to keep fighting. On the day I didn't renew with the channel, my heart was torn—part of me wanted to stay, part of me wanted to embrace new challenges."

Regarding his relationship with Ice, Big shared: "We've known each other for over 10 years since our university days at Chulalongkorn. She was a senior, and I knew she was at Channel 7. We'd greet each other at work but never collaborated until recently when we worked together on a vertical series. That's when we started talking and it felt comforting. We sparked on many topics. I consulted her about life, and it turned out we were both single at the right time. The more we talked, the more I wanted to know her. So I tried to initiate a conversation.

Ice is a capable, disciplined, and very mature woman, so I approached her carefully. I tend to move forward in life, so I was honest about my feelings when I told her, admitting I was nervous about what would happen if she didn't feel the same. But she's very professional, both in work and relationships. After talking with her, I thought if we click, let's move forward; if she doesn't feel the same, we can remain colleagues as before."

When asked how long it took before they became a couple, Big said: "Two to three months. I always respect her—first, she's older than me; second, she has a very good temperament. As for those who think it was too fast, it's because we both had just become single. Whether it's love or loneliness is a fair question. I think everyone has the right to their own interpretation, but love isn't about time. We might spend our whole lives together."

School Children Study Under Mango Trees After Building Demolished

Forty-one elementary students in Phichit Province's Sak Sai District were forced to study under mango trees after school officials demolished their 50-year-old classroom without securing replacement funding, prompting the governor to pledge

1d ago Khaosod

On June 30, residents of Ban Taluk Hin in Phichit Province's Sak Sai District filed complaints after 41 elementary students lost their classroom when school officials auctioned off the decrepit building to a private contractor in late May. Teachers and parents were forced to relocate classes to a mango orchard shelter near the school to escape rain during monsoon season—a hardship that sparked serious concerns. The original structure, over 50 years old and structurally unsafe, was demolished without any funding secured for a new facility, leaving parents questioning where the auction proceeds went and how much was received. After officials rejected the village temple as inadequate due to lack of electricity and internet, students ended up studying under the mango trees. When Governor Thaniya Naiyapinit visited the site with provincial officials and education leaders, parents requested the temporary move to Taluk Hin Temple instead. The abbot approved the transfer for the children's safety. Governor Thaniya acknowledged the urgency, stating she fears children face danger from traffic near the mango orchard location. She pledged to fast-track emergency funding for temporary classrooms, which villagers and alumni have already begun contributing toward. Provincial education officials were instructed to pursue permanent reconstruction budget applications to ensure students have a safe, standard learning environment.

Man Charged After Ramming Eight Cars in Emotional Rampage

A 36-year-old man in Bangkok rammed eight vehicles on Sriwara Road after a breakup, injuring two people; police charged him with reckless driving despite negative drug and alcohol tests, and he agreed to compensate victims.

1d ago Khaosod

BANGKOK — 30 June 2026, A man driving a newly registered Mercedes-Benz allegedly rammed eight vehicles after losing control of his emotions following a break-up with his partner. While he tested negative for alcohol and illicit substances, police have officially pressed charges, and the suspect has expressed a willingness to compensate all affected parties.

Following a Facebook post that went viral, dramatic video footage captured the incident on Sriwara Road in Wang Thonglang district. The bronze-grey Mercedes-Benz with temporary red license plates was filmed violently rear-ending multiple vehicles, leaving a trail of wreckage. Witnesses reported that the outburst stemmed from a domestic dispute, during which the male driver lost his composure and used his vehicle to vent his frustration, ultimately damaging eight cars.

On Tuesday, a 36-year-old motorcycle delivery rider who witnessed the incident and later assisted the driver said the crash occurred around 17:00 while he was waiting to accept a food delivery order. He heard a series of loud crashes and saw the car speed forward without stopping, striking multiple vehicles and injuring two occupants.

When traffic police arrived, they initially suspected the driver might be intoxicated. However, officers detected no smell of alcohol. The motorcycle rider spoke with the driver, identified as a man in his 30s, who was trembling and crying. The man allegedly said he had just received a phone call from his partner ending their relationship, causing him to lose emotional control.

The rider attempted to comfort the driver while urging him not to take out personal problems on others. The man reportedly agreed to compensate all victims. Police took him to Wang Thonglang Police Station for legal proceedings.

At the station, the suspect's heavily damaged Mercedes-Benz was impounded as evidence, alongside several victims' vehicles. Investigators questioned both the driver and victims. The driver told officers he had argued with his partner and became overwhelmed after the relationship ended, unable to maintain emotional control.

Police will summon relevant individuals for further questioning and gather additional evidence before proceeding with prosecution. The driver was initially charged with reckless driving causing injury and property damage. The two injured victims, who were in one of the rear-ended cars, suffered minor injuries. Police continue gathering statements from those affected.

Jade Mine Collapse in Myanmar Kills 5, 15 Missing

A landslide at an abandoned jade mine in Myanmar's Kachin State killed at least five people and left 15 missing, with heavy monsoon rains complicating rescue efforts in the notoriously dangerous mining region.

1d ago Khaosod

YANGON — At least five people have been confirmed dead and 15 others remain missing after a landslide struck an abandoned jade mine in northern Myanmar, with continuous heavy rain hampering rescue efforts.

China's Xinhua News Agency reported that the collapse occurred after persistent rainfall triggered a landslide at an abandoned jade mining site, causing piles of mining debris to give way.

According to The Global New Light of Myanmar, the landslide occurred in Hpakant township, Kachin State, on Sunday, 28 June 2026. As of the latest update, authorities had confirmed five fatalities, while around 15 people were still unaccounted for.

Local authorities, volunteer rescue groups and residents have continued search and rescue operations despite ongoing rain and the risk of further landslides. The bodies recovered from the site have been returned to their families.

Hpakant is home to some of the world's highest-quality jade deposits and has long been prone to deadly landslides, particularly during the monsoon season. Reports said many local residents and migrant workers continue searching abandoned mines for leftover jade despite the significant danger.

Thailand Showcases Premium Shrimp at Phuket Event

Thailand held a major shrimp promotion event in Phuket last week to boost domestic consumption and establish Thai shrimp as a premium global brand amid struggling exports. The initiative featured over 20 vendor booths, competitions, and coo

1d ago Khaosod

On June 30, 2025, Witthayakorn Maneenetragul, director-general of the Department of Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce, announced the successful 'Thailand Helps Thailand Plus: Must-See, Must-Eat Shrimp' event held at Sanam Luang Saphan Hin Park in Phuket from June 24-28. The initiative was organized jointly with Phuket Province, the Thai Shrimp Association, tourism sectors, and the private sector to promote domestic shrimp consumption, position Thai shrimp as a world-class premium product, and assist farmers impacted by sluggish export conditions.

The event drew strong crowds of locals and tourists, featuring over 20 booths offering fresh shrimp from southern farmers, fresh and processed seafood, marketplace goods, and seasonal fruits. Activities included special pricing promotions, shrimp-catching games, shrimp-eating competitions, and cooking demonstrations. Witthayakorn noted this campaign is part of a broader strategy to elevate Thai shrimp's image as a premium brand and ensure consumers and tourists access quality, internationally certified Thai shrimp.

The Internal Trade Department has intensified marketing and consumption-promotion activities to absorb shrimp production and stabilize prices for Grade A and B shrimp domestically, while expanding sales channels and market linkages. With over 70 percent of Thai shrimp produced in southern Thailand—a region recognized for international quality standards—Phuket was chosen as an ideal location to connect quality farmer-produced shrimp directly with consumers and tourists.

Facing global economic slowdown that has dampened Thai shrimp exports, the Ministry of Commerce is accelerating domestic consumption measures alongside export market expansion, transforming challenges into opportunities. The department is opening direct sales channels for southern shrimp farmers, launching campaigns through over 4,630 retail and wholesale outlets nationwide, and partnering with over 1,000 hotels to promote southern-sourced shrimp. The department is also implementing market-linkage measures including purchasing points at production sites, connecting buyers with exporters and processors, organizing consumer campaigns under the Thailand Helps Thailand Plus program, and arranging seafood product caravans across regions. These efforts are expected to stimulate consumption and absorb at least 500 tons of shrimp production through multi-sector cooperation. Long-term plans include building an internationally recognized Thai shrimp brand identity and opening new markets while addressing structural challenges.

Former Star Backs Moriyasu Despite Japan's World Cup Elimination

Former Japanese defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka has urged the Japan Football Association to keep manager Hajime Moriyasu despite the team's group-stage exit from the 2026 World Cup, citing his strong leadership despite the early elimination.

1d ago Khaosod

Marcus Tulio Tanaka, a former Japanese national team defender of Brazilian descent, has expressed hope that the Japan Football Association will retain manager Hajime Moriyasu, despite Japan's recent group-stage elimination from the 2026 World Cup. Tanaka, a candid commentator known for frequently criticizing the Japanese national team, told NHK BS that despite Japan suffering five consecutive early eliminations in 2002, 2010, 2018, 2022, and 2026, Moriyasu's overall performance warrants extending his third contract. "The eight-year struggle has been extraordinary," Tanaka said. "Even today, if we had made better substitutions from the bench, we might have won. But I still think Moriyasu should continue. He's an outstanding person, and that's why everyone is willing to follow him."

Thailand Tightens Solar Panel Product Standards

Thailand is tightening safety standards for solar products by designating key components as controlled goods, with five new standards covering wiring, batteries, fuses, inverters, and circuit breakers set to take effect by September 2025. T

1d ago Khaosod

Industry Minister Varawut Silparacha announced plans to enhance solar cell system safety by designating solar-related products as controlled goods to block substandard items from the market. The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) previously made solar panels subject to standard TIS 61730 Part 2-2567 a controlled product, expected to take effect in September 2025.

On June 23, 2025, the Industrial Products Standards Board approved five additional standards for solar-related products: TIS 62930-2564 for photovoltaic system electrical wires, TIS 63056-2567 for lithium batteries in energy storage systems, TIS 60269 Part 6-2567 for low-voltage fuses in solar cell systems, TIS 2603 Part 2-2556 for inverters, and TIS 60947 Part 2-25xx for DC circuit breakers.

"This additional standard framework covers electrical wires, lithium batteries, low-voltage fuses, inverters, and DC circuit breakers to assure the public that clean energy use must come with safety," Varawut said. The regulation is expected to take effect by September 2025.

The new standards will provide comprehensive safety oversight across the entire solar system, from electricity generation through transmission, conversion, and storage, reducing risks of fires, short circuits, and accidents from substandard equipment. After publication in the Royal Gazette, operators must obtain permits and comply with the standards, making it harder for non-compliant products to reach the market while better protecting consumers and aligning Thailand's solar industry with international standards.

Varawut advised consumers planning to install solar systems not to consider price alone. They should verify that key components—solar panels, inverters, wiring, batteries, and electrical protection devices—have TIS or related certifications and choose experienced installers to ensure proper and safe design and installation. "A solar system is a long-term investment lasting decades," he noted. "While certified equipment and expert installation may cost more upfront, they reduce safety risks, lower maintenance expenses, and provide better long-term value."
