Senate Begins Review of 2025 Budget Worth 3.78 Trillion Baht

The Senate convened on September 11, 2025, under the chair of Deputy Senate President Kriang Krai Srirak to consider the 2025 Budget Bill following approval by the House of Representatives. The Senate has 20 days to approve or reject the draft without amendments, with 30 senators registered to debate. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprayoon presented the 3.78 trillion baht budget, emphasizing that it prioritizes implementation of core government policies to address public concerns, maintain economic stability, preserve fiscal discipline, cushion economic volatility, and respond to rapid changes. The budget integrates complex agencies and focuses on public needs through rigorous data analysis and urgent priorities, while ensuring cost-effective, efficient, and results-oriented spending in line with the government's fiscal framework. Ekniti noted that the government has compiled the budget to cover all funding sources, including budget and non-budget funds such as loans and public-private partnerships, in compliance with the constitution, financial discipline laws, budget procedures, and relevant cabinet resolutions. The Senate reviewed and reduced the budget where recommended by special committees, prioritizing agency efficiency and eliminating duplication while supporting economic stimulus and solving public problems. The budget is designed to support robust economic growth and manage volatility from both domestic and external factors. Ekniti thanked the Senate for its consideration and said the government will incorporate senators' comments to ensure budget spending yields maximum benefits for the nation and its people.
