Sports Ministry Expands Athletic Science and Recreation Services
Thailand's Sports Ministry has expanded athletic science and recreational services at its training center in Pathum Thani, offering sports medicine, talent identification, injury clinics, and fitness programs for youth and the public.
The Department of Physical Education is upgrading sports services, sports science, and recreational programs at the Sports Science Institute Building at the Department of Physical Education Training Center in Pathum Thani Province to develop the full potential of youth and the public.
The Department of Physical Education, under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, is advancing public health and Thai sports development by opening services at the Sports Science Institute Building (Klong 6 Service) in Pathum Thani. The focus is on applying sports science principles, sports medicine, and recreational activities to comprehensively develop children, youth, and the general public.
Mongkol Wimolrat, Director-General of the Department of Physical Education, said the department is committed to promoting exercise, sports, and recreational activities as a lifestyle for sustainable health of Thai people. The Klong 6 Service at the Sports Science Institute Building in Pathum Thani is an important mechanism for serving youth, athletes, and residents. Services are divided into four main areas:
1. Sports science knowledge promotion activities to develop youth with special athletic abilities, including sports performance testing and talent identification, with analysis and comparison against standard criteria, athletic talent development training classes, and cognitive development classes. The goal is to ensure young athletes receive proper assessment and physical development training based on sports science principles to advance toward professional athletics careers.
2. Sports clinic services providing sports medicine, including initial health assessment, promotion, prevention, and treatment of sports-related or exercise-related injuries for people of all ages and genders. Services also include online sports injury consultation and dissemination of knowledge about proper exercise to prevent injury. Medical personnel and ambulances equipped with medical supplies are stationed at sports competitions and events.
3. Recreational activities at the "Dream Fulfillment, Happiness Sharing" Recreation Center in Pathum Thani, open Monday through Friday (excluding public holidays) from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. These activities promote personal interests, build wellness, and develop mental and physical health, emotions, and social skills while encouraging productive use of leisure time.
4. Sports Science and Exercise Center (Department of Physical Education Fitness Center) providing services to promote regular and consistent exercise for people of all ages and genders, developing correct exercise knowledge and skills according to academic principles. The center also builds and develops exercise and health networks in various formats, using exercise as a medium to sustainably build health for individuals, families, and communities.
Beyond the Klong 6 Service in Pathum Thani, Mongkol also mentioned services at Suphachalasai Stadium in Pathumwan, Bangkok, including Muay Thai training through the Department of Physical Education Thai Art and Sports Preservation Center at Gate 16 of Suphachalasai Stadium, which aims to transmit Muay Thai wisdom, elevate soft power, and encourage children, students, and youth to preserve Thai arts.
