A Democrat MP has demanded authorities identify a mysterious figure known as "Sai Pho 888" allegedly behind an illegal gambling den raided in Bangkok's Din Daeng district, calling for a full investigation into the operation's owners and any
Chaiyachana Daechdecho, a Democrat list MP and parliamentary police committee advisor, revealed that during a joint operation with the anti-money laundering and narcotics suppression committee and the Interior Ministry's special task force to raid an illegal gambling den in Soi Prachasongkhro 14, Din Daeng district on September 23, a phone call came through to the venue's manager. When questioned about the caller's identity, investigators uncovered interesting information. Chaiyachana has requested that the Metropolitan Police Bureau urgently investigate and identify the owner and those connected to the location, particularly a person referred to by the initials 'Sai Pho 888,' described as a well-known figure in Din Daeng.
Chaiyachana also called on Bangkok's governor to examine whether the Din Daeng district chief properly performed his duties, questioning why the district office had no knowledge of or failed to inspect the building modifications beforehand, and whether proper permits were obtained and building-use regulations enforced. He emphasized that authorities should not merely arrest those found at the site but must extend the investigation to those behind the operation, including venue owners, operators, and any negligent state officials.
Chaiyachana stressed that the integrated operation addresses multiple dimensions beyond gambling alone, including investigation of relevant laws covering money laundering, drug trafficking, building codes, safety standards, and public health regulations. He said comprehensive law enforcement is essential to prevent illegal gambling operations from reopening.
