Thailand Partners With Google on Green Data Center Standards
Thailand and Google announced a partnership to develop green data center standards and build digital workforce skills, with Google investing $1 billion in facilities across Chonburi Province and Bangkok.
On September 23, at 9:00 a.m. New York time, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister visited Google's offices at Pier 57 in New York to meet with Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google.
The Thai government announced plans to partner with Google on developing environmentally friendly data center standards and supporting community development. Google will also establish an Open Data institute to build quality workforce skills and create opportunities for Thai workers.
The Prime Minister thanked Google for its confidence and $1 billion investment in Thailand for developing data centers in Chonburi Province and a Google Cloud Region in Bangkok. He confirmed the Thai government will facilitate smooth implementation of these projects and aims to deepen long-term cooperation beyond infrastructure investment, particularly in AI, digital skills development, and Thailand's digital economy transition.
The initiative prioritizes clean energy and sustainable data center standards. Data centers are critical infrastructure for the digital economy and AI, so the government emphasizes development that balances growth with environmental sustainability—including energy efficiency, water management, and community care. Thailand will adopt Google's knowledge, technology, and experience to elevate environmental standards for data centers nationwide.
Ruth Porat stated that Google's investment in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor in Chonburi emphasizes environmentally friendly standards and community benefit. Google also plans to open the Open Data institute to promote quality digital skills development for Thai workers and startups. Google reaffirmed its commitment to be a long-term partner with Thailand.
