Thai PM Assures Thai Community in New York: Economy Improving, Government Stable
PM Anutin assured Thai expatriates in New York that Thailand's economy is improving and government remains stable while attending UN meetings with global leaders expressing confidence in the country.
On September 23, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his wife Thamanoon, who are attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, visited Wat Buddhai Thai Taworn Voranaram temple in New York. The Prime Minister and his wife paid respects to the Emerald Buddha replica inside the temple's ordination hall, made merit offerings, and received blessings from the abbot, Phra Khru Wittoon Thammaprakat.
Afterward, the Prime Minister greeted Thai community members gathered at the temple, expressing joy at meeting them and reconnecting with Somjit Thammasuriyamit, former owner of Phaong Sri restaurant in New York, who helped support him during his student days there and gave him part-time work opportunities.
The Prime Minister introduced several ministers accompanying him, including Deputy Prime Minister Supachee Sutthamphan, who is negotiating trade tariffs with the United States on favorable terms, and Chaiyachon Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society and son of Newin Chidchob, whom he praised as a talented young politician and described as like his own grandchild.
Anutin told the Thai community not to worry about Thailand, saying everything is proceeding smoothly and the economy is improving. He noted that through UN meetings, he has met with many world leaders and leading private sector investors who are confident in Thailand. Despite global conflicts and instability, he said Thailand is well-positioned for business expansion due to its logistical and geographical advantages.
He emphasized that the government operates efficiently, with citizens as masters rather than servants, and full legal recourse is available for those who face injustice. He warned that those engaged in corruption face near-zero chances of escaping consequences, and the government remains stable with strong cooperation between public and private sectors. The administration has implemented fast-track approval processes to eliminate delays, and he appealed for national unity, noting that the monarchy serves as the center of the people's hearts.
