A 29-year-old man in Udon Thani was found dead in his bedroom on July 9 after struggling with job loss and accumulated stress, leaving his wife devastated after their final video call that morning.
A wife was left devastated after discovering her 29-year-old husband dead in their bedroom following job loss and stress. She revealed his final words during a video call, never imagining they would be their last.
On July 10, 2025, Deputy Lieutenant Sirichai Phothichak, an investigator with Muang District Police Station in Udon Thani, reported that on July 9, officers responded to a death at a two-story residential house in Muang District, Udon Thani. Police arrived with a forensic doctor from Udon Thani Hospital and rescue personnel from Udon Sawangmethadham Foundation. They found the body of a 29-year-old man identified as A (pseudonym) in the bedroom. Relatives and close friends arrived at the scene with deep sorrow, especially the wife, who collapsed in tears upon arrival, unable to believe their farewell that morning would be their last.
During questioning, the wife B (pseudonym), 33, stated that the night before the incident, they had discussed their future and family financial burdens after her husband quit his job nearly a month prior. She had only suggested he apply for work at restaurants and urged him to stay strong, noting they still had expenses and two children to support. However, he fell silent and appeared discouraged, believing he was worthless and misunderstanding that she no longer loved him.
Throughout their relationship, whenever they argued, he would engage in self-harm, once breaking his wrist punching a wall. Recently, he had frequently said he would not live past age 30. Everyone thought these were just words from stress and tried to comfort and encourage him. No one anticipated these would become a premonition.
On the morning of the incident, everything seemed normal. He woke up, cooked rice, and showered before they both left for work. During her drive, he called and video called, but she was busy driving and couldn't talk long. Before hanging up, he said briefly, "I wish you good luck." She thought it was just sullen banter and didn't pay attention.
Shortly after arriving at work, a neighbor called with devastating news: her husband was found dead at home. She was shocked and only then realized that "I wish you good luck" was his final goodbye she would never hear again.
His aunt reported that she was preparing to bring rice to her bed-ridden son next door when she noticed a burnt smell coming from inside the house. Checking the kitchen, she found burnt rice and quickly turned off the gas, calling out to ask her nephew to come out. When he didn't respond and she opened his bedroom door, she found him already deceased. She was shocked and never imagined he would do this.
Initially, officers believe the victim may have been under accumulated stress from job loss combined with feelings of worthlessness and personal problems, which led him to take his own life. Officials will proceed according to legal procedures before releasing the body to family for religious rites.
