At a parliament session on August 24, Montian Songprecha, chair of the State Security Committee's subcommittee on national security and border affairs, condemned the coordinated attacks that struck 76 locations across the four southern border provinces—Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Satun—simultaneously. Officials admitted there was no intelligence warning of the violence, and the 22-year southern insurgency has never seen a peaceful year. Montian noted the synchronized nature of the attacks across all four provinces suggested deliberate timing, possibly around significant dates, to send signals and damage the government's credibility after its recent intensified crackdowns on illegal activities.

Montian criticized the response, stating that attacks lasting 12 hours with no arrests represent operational failure. He confirmed the prime minister had instructed him to investigate what went wrong with intelligence gathering and security coordination. The committee will convene on August 27 with six agencies: the National Security Council, the Internal Security Command, the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre, Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, Royal Thai Police Region 9, and the National Intelligence Agency. He identified four root problems driving unrest: narcotics trafficking, smuggling, annual budget allocations reaching tens of millions of baht, and territorial disputes—issues requiring reasoned dialogue rather than violence against innocent civilians.

Spokesperson Peerapol Kanokwilai, from the Economic Party, added that insurgents are targeting both the economy and government credibility at a time when the BRN militant group is undergoing generational change, budget allocations are under review, and drug suppression operations are ongoing.

Bangkok — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on August 4, 2026, that he would meet with security agencies to assess a wave of unrest across Thailand's three southernmost border provinces, acknowledging that authorities had received advance intelligence but failed to accurately predict the timing and scale of the attacks.

Speaking at Government House, Sihasak, who also chairs the government's special representatives' committee for resolving problems in the southern border provinces, said he would meet with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and relevant agencies later that day. The meeting will include the secretary-general of the National Security Council, the director of the National Intelligence Agency, and other relevant agencies to assess the situation and determine next steps.

"The incident is worrying. We have to face the facts regarding intelligence. We knew in advance about the operation that took place," Sihasak said. He said authorities now need to assess who was behind the attacks and review security preparations to ensure they are tighter at every point.

Asked how more than 50 incidents could have occurred despite advance intelligence, Sihasak said intelligence agencies may have known that an operation was being planned, but predicting exactly when it would happen had proved more difficult. "Sometimes operations like this are spread out, so predicting them is not easy," he said.

He said authorities must review both intelligence operations and their readiness to intercept and prevent similar incidents in the future, particularly to prevent civilians from being affected. Sihasak added that the prime minister had ordered authorities to provide full assistance and compensation to those affected by the incidents.

Asked whether Thailand had coordinated with Malaysia to prevent suspected attackers from crossing the border, Sihasak said Malaysia was ready to cooperate if Thailand made a request. "We have actually been discussing this since the prime minister's visit," he said, adding that authorities would first determine who was behind the attacks and where they might have fled.

Asked about reports that the attacks may have been intended to discredit state authorities following a crackdown on the illicit goods trade, Sihasak said there could be several contributing factors. "I think there are several factors. Let me discuss this with all sides first to determine what caused it and what factors were involved. I don't want to draw conclusions at this point," he said.

The discussion is expected to take place after a meeting on preparations for the Singaporean prime minister's upcoming visit to Thailand. Asked whether authorities had assessed what the attackers wanted to achieve, Sihasak again declined to speculate, saying the matter needed to be discussed first. He also acknowledged that the recent increase in the frequency of attacks required further examination, including possible motives.

On August 24, Nattcha Boonchaiyinswastdi, a Thai Nation Party list MP, filed a complaint with the Election Commission over AI-generated attack videos being circulated during the campaign for Nonthaburi Provincial Government governor, where their party has fielded candidate Detcharat Sukgamnerd. Nattcha said unknown parties have been continuously creating AI clips using Move Forward Party logos in an attempt to blur the lines of responsibility and prevent Thai Nation Party from taking direct legal action. Though the clips use the banned Move Forward Party symbol, the public may perceive them as coming from connected orange-aligned groups since they also feature orange colors and the number 4, which is Detcharat's candidate number. Nattcha called on the Election Commission to monitor and regulate the Nonthaburi provincial race, which he described as currently fierce and contentious.

According to the report on Channel 7, the alleged abuse took place between June and July this year, and the mother only recently became aware of it. The mother said that she had noticed her daughter becoming more withdrawn in recent weeks. Eventually, the teenager revealed that the teacher had abused her when her mother pressed her for an explanation. He provided her with exam answers, which led to her achieving the desired result. Then, the teacher arranged a meeting at a nudist resort. He groped her during that visit. The student said that the teacher had also groped her at school. Unable to tolerate his behaviour any longer, she filmed the assault as evidence for a further police complaint. The footage showed the teacher putting his hand under her skirt. According to the girl’s mother, she raised the matter with the school, resulting in an agreement that she considered unfair. The school drew up a document stating that the teacher would be transferred to another school and would be required to pay the schoolgirl 50,000 baht in compensation.
