Thai Party Demands Election Body Prosecute AI Smear Campaign

On August 24, Nattcha Boonchaiyinswastdi, a Thai Nation Party list MP, filed a complaint with the Election Commission over AI-generated attack videos being circulated during the campaign for Nonthaburi Provincial Government governor, where their party has fielded candidate Detcharat Sukgamnerd. Nattcha said unknown parties have been continuously creating AI clips using Move Forward Party logos in an attempt to blur the lines of responsibility and prevent Thai Nation Party from taking direct legal action. Though the clips use the banned Move Forward Party symbol, the public may perceive them as coming from connected orange-aligned groups since they also feature orange colors and the number 4, which is Detcharat's candidate number. Nattcha said Thai Nation Party plans to pursue charges related to false data being entered into computer systems under the Computer Crime Act, and the party has identified the person posting the videos and will file charges against all accounts involved in the attack campaign. He criticized the strategy as deliberately designed to circumvent direct legal liability while spreading misinformation. Nattcha also dismissed false claims circulating on social media that Thai Nation Party plans to abolish the 30-baht healthcare scheme or eliminate education and public health systems in the province. He stressed that Detcharat has consistently said he will continue and expand existing successful policies funded by taxpayer money and will maintain or increase education support in Nonthaburi. Nattcha called on the Election Commission to monitor and regulate the Nonthaburi provincial race, which he described as currently fierce and contentious.
