Surveyor Accidentally Shoots Himself While Cleaning Gun at Home
A 42-year-old irrigation department surveyor in Nonthaburi accidentally shot himself in the chest while cleaning firearms at home. His wife heard the shot, attempted CPR, and called for help, but he died at the scene. Police found multiple guns and cleaning equipment in the house and have sent the body for an autopsy.
At 2:45 p.m. on November 7, 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Thawon Phetthae, deputy superintendent of Bang Bua Thong Police Station in Nonthaburi, received a report from the Bang Bua Thong radio center that a man had been fatally shot inside a residence in Bang Bua Thong subdistrict. He inspected the scene along with Police Lieutenant Colonel Thansakorn Khonthong, head of the investigation unit; Police Lieutenant Colonel Phithet Chanpha, deputy head of the crime suppression unit; Police Lieutenant Colonel Phichit Im-acha, deputy head of the forensic unit; an on-duty doctor from the Institute of Forensic Science; and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
The incident occurred in a two-story house. On the ground floor, officers found the body of Mr. Sek San, 42, a surveyor for the Provincial Irrigation Office. He was wearing black shorts and no shirt, lying face up with a single gunshot wound beneath his left collarbone. At his feet lay a magazine-fed pistol along with gun-cleaning equipment and three additional firearms — two 9mm pistols and one .38 caliber revolver.
The victim's wife, Ms. Thatsanai, 42, told police her husband had been cleaning guns downstairs while she stayed upstairs with their child. Around 2:35 p.m., she heard a loud gunshot from below and ran down to find him shot in the chest. She immediately called emergency services and performed CPR, but when rescuers arrived, he had already died. Police sent the body to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
