Suvarnabhumi Passenger Traffic Hits 59 Million in 11 Months
Suvarnabhumi Airport handled 59.6 million passengers in the first 11 months of fiscal 2569, marking a 2.43 percent increase as Thailand's main hub continues modernizing its border control and terminal facilities.
Suvarnabhumi Airport has logged robust growth in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2569 (October 2568 to August 2569), according to Kittipong Kittikatchor, director of Suvarnabhumi Airport under Thai Airports Public Company Limited. The airport accommodated 118 airlines with a combined 346,905 departures and arrivals, up 1.83 percent. Passenger traffic reached 59.6 million, an increase of 2.43 percent, while air cargo flights totaled 15,855, up 6.34 percent, handling over 1.4 million tonnes of goods, up 4.63 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year.
As the airport marks its 20th anniversary of operations since opening on September 28, 2549, Suvarnabhumi has welcomed nearly 900 million passengers over its lifetime, handled more than 5.57 million flights, and processed over 24.9 million tonnes of cargo. The airport remains a critical infrastructure connecting travel, tourism, trade, investment, and logistics between Thailand and the world.
To enhance operational efficiency and accommodate rising passenger and flight volumes, Suvarnabhumi has accelerated passport processing improvements. The airport plans to install 122 Automated Border Control machines, with 106 already in place. The outbound ABC system supports e-passports from over 90 countries, while the inbound system supports 34 countries, with a dedicated special assistance lane for passengers requiring extra support.
The airport is also upgrading passenger terminal facilities, including renovating seven information counters to modern standards accessible to disabled persons, the elderly, and children. Five counters are now operational. Management has allocated space for Kids Zones, Relaxing Zones, Co-Working Spaces, and Digital Park Seating, while adding over 200 charging points for electronic devices. Bathroom renovations across the terminal and aircraft boarding buildings total 124 locations, with 69 completed and all expected finished by 2571. The airport is also surveying and designing a group tour passenger service area in parking zone 3, level 6.
