Suvarnabhumi Airport has defended food prices at its international passenger terminal, saying restaurants and beverage outlets are required to keep their prices within 20% of normal market prices.

The clarification from Airports of Thailand (AOT) came after Khaosod English published a post on 9 August asking followers whether food at Suvarnabhumi Airport was too expensive. The post cited complaints from some passengers who said food inside the international departure terminal was significantly more expensive than similar items outside the airport, with some saying certain prices were several times higher than normal.

In its response to Khaosod English, AOT said Suvarnabhumi Airport has a wide range of restaurants and beverage outlets, with prices varying according to the type of establishment and menu. The airport said this gives passengers and other users a range of choices based on their preferences and budgets.

Budget food options

AOT said King Power Suvarnabhumi Co., Ltd. (KPS), which has the concession to manage commercial activities inside the passenger terminal, has also introduced budget food options under its "Suvarnabhumi Food Guide" program for 2026-27. The program offers food sets starting at 50 baht, AOT said.

Examples include a Krispy Kreme doughnut set with one can of soft drink, as well as a Bonchon chicken set with sundubu soup, Japanese rice and a 600-milliliter bottle of Purra mineral water for 280 baht.

The airport also pointed to Magic Food Point, a food court on the first floor of the passenger terminal, as another budget option. Prices there start at 30 baht, and the food court offers a variety of food and drinks 24 hours a day.

Prices monitored monthly

AOT said restaurants and beverage outlets at Suvarnabhumi Airport operated under KPS are subject to contractual conditions requiring them to control prices so they do not exceed 20% above market prices. The benchmark is based on regular selling prices at department stores and leading hotels in Bangkok, rather than prices at restaurants located outside the airport generally.

AOT said it receives pricing information from KPS and checks the submitted prices every month to ensure compliance with the conditions.

The airport acknowledged the concerns raised by passengers and said their comments and suggestions would be taken into consideration as part of efforts to improve services.

AOT also said it would coordinate with relevant operators to encourage them to take into account price, product quality and value for money, while maintaining international service standards at the airport.

Former Nonthaburi legislator Chaloeng Riuaraeng opened fire on Thongchai Yenprasert, the Nonthaburi PAO governor, killing him outside the PAO office. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from personal grievances and a 11-million-baht loan dispute.

On August 10, Deputy Provincial Police Commander Chokechai Kanachoen, Supachai Srisak (Nonthaburi Provincial Police chief), and more than 20 investigators from Nonthaburi Provincial Police and Rattanakosin Subdistrict Police took Chaloeng into custody and conducted a search of his residence in Suanyal Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District. They were seeking additional evidence related to loan documents. The suspect stated that the shooting was motivated by a prior money-lending dispute between the two men. Special operations police from Nonthaburi Provincial Police also assisted in the search.

On August 10, authorities in Nong Khai province—including Deputy Provincial Police Commander Praphap Thitsak, assisted by senior officers from the Nong Khai Immigration Bureau and Customs Department—received 41 Thai nationals (30 women and 11 men) deported by Laotian authorities. Preliminary investigation found no evidence of human trafficking victims or wanted persons among the group.

Travel history checks revealed that all 41 had previously worked as administrators for online gambling websites in Cambodia. Following armed clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border, they decided to return to Thailand and subsequently traveled to Vientiane, Laos, crossing at the Nong Khai border checkpoint. They then rented dormitory accommodations to operate illegal online gambling websites operating around the clock, earning 15,000–18,000 baht per month.

On July 22, Laotian authorities conducted a major crackdown on illegal gambling networks, human trafficking, and scam operations, leading to the arrests and deportation of the Thai workers.

Following a major incident within a single week, the Nonthaburi governor has explained that suspect Chalong Riangrang, a former Nonthaburi MP, was allowed to smoke and had his handcuffs temporarily removed during questioning—citing his severe stress and basic rights.

Chalong opened fire on Thongchai Yenprasert, the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) chairman, killing him outside PAO headquarters. The incident stemmed from personal disputes and a 11-million-baht financial disagreement.

On August 10, 2026, at Rattanakosin Police Station, Governor Chetsada Mosigarrt disclosed the social media images and explained that investigators had allowed the suspect to smoke and briefly removed his handcuffs during questioning. According to the governor's account from investigators' reports, the suspect was under severe stress and anxiety at the time, and requested permission to smoke—which constitutes a basic right that anyone may exercise. Regarding the handcuffs, the governor confirmed that they are worn nearly constantly, but any visible removal in circulated photos may have occurred temporarily because the suspect was in a highly stressed state.

On the investigation front, because the PAO chairman's death is involved, investigators require extended questioning time. They have also requested court authorization for a house search warrant to locate firearms and ammunition, as well as additional evidence. The firearm licensing may face revocation. Tomorrow, investigators will escort the suspect to request detention orders from Nonthaburi Provincial Court and oppose bail, given the severity of the felony charge.

On August 10, 2025, police acting on orders from Metropolitan Police Bureau Commissioner Natthasak Chaowarasat arrested Sarapong (surname withheld), age 40, who was wanted under arrest warrants from the Thonburi Criminal Court (No. 207/2567, dated August 28, 2024) and the Pracha Nakhon Noi District Court (No. 115/2569, dated March 18, 2025). He faces charges of murder, violations of firearms law, conspiracy to unlawfully bury and conceal remains, and conspiracy to move and destroy a corpse. The arrest took place near a shopfront on Narathiwas Ratchanakhrin Road in Silom, Bangrak district, Bangkok.

The case stems from February 18, 2025, when a group of assailants abducted Rudth (Top), age 46, a manager at a medical equipment importing and distribution company, from a parking lot near Soi Ratchada 18 in Huai Khwang district. The perpetrators transported him to a tire-burning site, leaving only skeletal remains inside a bathroom in an abandoned house in Chai Badan district, Lopburi province.

Investigators eventually identified and arrested all 10 suspects involved. Sarawee (Tan), age 46, was identified as the mastermind who hired eight additional gang members—all of whom were arrested earlier. Sarapong, who worked as Sarawee's bodyguard, had been evading capture in the Bangrak area until his arrest.
