A pickup truck transporting villagers to a funeral left the road on a steep bend and tumbled down a hillside in Wiang Chae, Chiang Rai, on the morning of October 7, 2026. Security officials in Wiang Chae district received the report from the village head of Ban Rom Pho Ngern, Moo 11, T. Po, and informed district governor Mr. Suphun Langkawiranan, who coordinated emergency medical and rescue teams to the scene. The bronze Mitsubishi pickup was found badly damaged, having slipped from the road onto a steep slope. Rescue and local administrative officers had to carry the victims uphill with difficulty. Officials confirmed 11 people were involved: one dead—a 15‑year‑old boy—one seriously injured, and nine others injured. Rescue personnel gave initial first aid before transporting all injured to Wiang Chae Hospital for further care. Preliminary investigation and statements from the village head of Ban Rom Pho Ngern indicated that the deceased and injured were en route to attend a villager’s burial ceremony at an agricultural area in Ban Rom Pho Ngern. The driver was identified as Mr. Chaloemphol, the assistant village headman. As the vehicle reached the accident spot—a steep mountain road—it lost control, veered off the curve, and plunged down the hillside, causing the loss. The district governor ordered local administrative officials to liaise closely with Wiang Chae Hospital for monitoring the injured and to coordinate with the Wiang Chae Police Station to investigate the scene and determine the exact cause of the accident.
