Transport Deputy Explains AI Passport Response to Political Color Query
Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angsakulkiattiyot addressed viral mockery of an AI passport system's word-color responses, emphasizing users must understand AI limitations before drawing conclusions.
On September 9, Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angsakulkiattiyot and deputy leader of the Phum Jai Thai Party addressed online social media trends after users tested the AI system in the TH-AI Passport project, playing a word-to-color matching game. When users typed "SW.," the system responded "navy blue," which sparked mockery and was linked to political issues.
Siripong revealed that he tested ChatGPT by instructing it: "I will say one word, you respond with a color." The system agreed to select the single color that best matched each word. When he entered various words, the system responded: "Banana is yellow, apple is red, SW. is orange, Nanthana is pink, and Siripong is navy blue."
Siripong emphasized that users must understand how AI systems work before drawing conclusions. Different AI systems may give different answers depending on the data they process, and responses should not be accepted immediately as fact. He compared this to navigation apps, which have improved over time as they learn from millions of users. Proper AI use involves asking questions, finding answers, and critically examining the results—a scientific learning process. "If you do this, there's no way you'll be foolish," Siripong said. "But if you believe whatever people say without filtering or questioning it, then you're certainly foolish."
