Thailand's beach soccer team faces setbacks as star striker Ratthaphong Na-dee steps on a nail and is expected to miss at least a week, while forward Warinthorn Naksawan must report for naval reserve duty, missing four days of training.
The Thai beach soccer team continues its preparations for the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2026 at Ban Nam Khem Beach in Takua Pa District, Phang Nga Province. Training has been intense under head coach Ekaphan 'Coach Ek' Sresthachai Chuentha. The national team has been camped in Phang Nga since October 22 to acclimatize, familiarize themselves with the pitch, and practice tactics before the final 12-player squad is selected for the championship.
Training on November 31 was challenging due to heavy rain throughout the morning and evening, particularly in the late afternoon, but the Thai team pressed on with the full program. Coach Ek said, 'Even when it rains we must train because there is a chance the actual matches will face similar conditions, and the team must adapt so everyone is ready. This session focused on defensive tactics, simulating high-press situations and drilling players to pressure the goalkeeper.'
Reporters added that Ratthaphong Na-dee, the top scorer in the 2025 Thai Beach Soccer League with 19 goals and the FA Thailand Award 2025 MVP, suffered the injury walking near the team's resort when a nail pierced his left foot. He waited about three hours at a hospital without receiving treatment and eventually returned for first aid from a clinic doctor. Ratthaphong said he has not yet received a tetanus shot; doctors are monitoring the wound. He was fortunate to be wearing sandals at the time, and because construction is underway nearby, he accidentally stepped on a nail, requiring 4-5 days of rest.
The team's troubles continue as Warinthorn Naksawan, who plays the same position as Ratthaphong, had to report to the Second Naval Area Command in Sattahip on November 1, causing him to miss another 2-3 days of training.
