Thai Boxer Grangpee Advances to Last 16 at Asian Games
Thai boxer Grangpee Bokuntad defeated Turkmenistan's Daniyar Rozmetov 5-0 in the men's 55kg division at the Asian Games in Japan on August 22, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Grangpee Bokuntad, a Thai amateur boxer, defeated Daniyar Rozmetov of Turkmenistan in the men's 55 kg weight class during the last-16 round of amateur boxing at the 20th Asian Games on August 22 at Nishio Gymnasium in Nishio, Japan. In the first round, the Thai fighter, a 2025 Asian Youth Championship gold medallist in the U-19 division, landed effective strikes and took the round. In the second round, Grangpee retreated and looked for openings to score, but Rozmetov pressed forward relentlessly. Thailand's fighter was also cautioned for a headbutt, though the judges were split, with three of five scoring in Grangpee's favour. In the third round, the Turkmen boxer came forward aggressively, prompting Grangpee to increase his punching intensity and land multiple counter-strikes before executing a solid footwork-based attack and scoring consecutively. The judges unanimously awarded the bout to Grangpee 5–0, advancing him to face Samandarbek Olimpov of Uzbekistan in the next last-16 matchup.
