Thai Swimmers Finish 10th, Men's Mixed Relay Breaks National Record
Thailand's swimmers competed at the 2026 Asian Games in Tokyo, with Mia Millar finishing 10th in the women's 200m freestyle. The men's 4×100m mixed relay team set a new national record of 3:38.84, finishing fifth overall.
At the 2026 Asian Games swimming championships on September 22 at Tokyo Aquatic Centre in Japan, Thailand's swimmers competed across multiple events with medal hopes. In the women's 200-meter freestyle, Mia Millar, a Thai-New Zealand swimmer, qualified from the heats as 4th in heat 2 with a time of 2:16.69. She improved in the final to 2:16.37 but finished 10th overall. Gold went to Peng Suwei of China with 2:05.77, setting a new Asian Games record, surpassing the previous mark set by Zhao Jing at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. Silver went to Sun Mingzi of China, and bronze to Rio Shiraai of Japan.
In the women's 400-meter freestyle, Thai swimmer Kamonchanok Khwanmeung qualified 5th in heat 2 with 4:20.31. Despite recently recovering from surgery, she finished 9th in the final with 4:21.95. Gold went to Li Bingjie of China, silver to Gan Ching Wei of Singapore, and bronze to Ishika Kajimoto of Japan.
In the men's 4×100-meter mixed relay, Thailand's team of Tannam Kantimuul, Maritch Samritiwech, Surasit Thongdaeng, and Pongsponpat Traitan qualified 4th in heat 1 with 3:40.51 and advanced to the final. Although the Thai team finished 5th without a medal, they defeated both Singapore and Indonesia with a time of 3:38.84, breaking Thailand's national record previously set at 3:40.28.
