Thai Boxers Eliminated from Asian Games Amateur Quarterfinals
Three Thai amateur boxers were eliminated from the 2026 Asian Games boxing tournament quarterfinals on September 28 in Japan, ending their medal hopes in the competition.
Three Thai amateur boxers—Granpee Bokhoontod, Phortip Buapaa, and Chakrapong Yamkote—failed to progress past the quarterfinals at the 2026 Asian Games boxing tournament held on September 28 at Nichio Gymnasium in Japan, missing their chances to secure medals.
In the women's 75-kilogram division, Phortip Buapaa faced China's Bao Ziyue and lost decisively by a 5-0 judges' decision, ending her run in the tournament.
In the men's 55-kilogram division, Granpee Bokhoontod, an Asian junior champion, fought Mongolia's Karkuu Bilguntsaikhan. Granpee trailed 0-5 after the first round as the Mongolian boxer attacked aggressively. In the second round, Granpee improved but was caught and counted down to 8 by the referee. Despite pushing hard in the final round, Granpee lost 0-5 and was eliminated, missing out on a bronze medal.
In the men's 90-kilogram division, Chakrapong Yamkote faced China's Han Suzheng. Chakrapong led 4-1 after an impressive first round. However, in the second round, the Chinese fighter launched a fierce assault while Chakrapong received a point deduction from the referee. Though Chakrapong landed several solid body shots in the third round, he could not overcome the judges' decision and lost 0-5. No Thai male boxer secured a medal at the 2026 Asian Games.
