Thailand Launches Weather Information Hub for Public Clarity
Thailand's government launched a centralized weather information hub on September 28 to standardize forecasts across media outlets and combat misinformation, using symbols and severity levels to help the public prepare for natural disasters
The Ministry of Digital Economy for Society has joined forces with the Meteorological Department, Public Relations Department, and Thai Public Broadcasting Service to establish a climate and weather information center on September 28, 2026. Permanent Secretary Pachon Anantsil, representing Digital Economy Minister Chaiyachano Chitchob, led the announcement at the Meteorological Department's 11th-floor operations center. The initiative follows a Cabinet resolution directing the Digital Economy Ministry to coordinate clear and accessible weather forecasts across all government communication channels.
Permanent Secretary Pachon explained that the new center will standardize weather and natural disaster information across television, radio, social media, and government outlets. Weather forecasts will now include symbolic representations and numerical severity levels to help the public understand the intensity of events and compare them with past incidents, enabling better preparedness. The ministry will also monitor and counter misinformation through coordinated messaging.
The government will actively track false or distorted weather information and alert the public through the Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC). Citizens can report suspicious information or verify news via hotline 1111 extension 87 (24 hours), or through the center's website at www.antifakenewscenter.com and social media accounts including Line, Facebook, X, TikTok, and Instagram.
