Rayong Flooding: Thousands of Pigs Stranded as Dam Overflows
Floodwaters from an overflowing reservoir in Rayong province swept through homes and agricultural areas, with rescue teams evacuating residents and saving thousands of trapped pigs from submerged pigsties on September 28.
The Satip Disaster Response Team deployed to assist residents in Village 4, Krasuban subdistrict, Kaeng district, Rayong province, at 1:00 p.m. on September 28, 2026, after flooding swept through homes and fruit orchards across the area.
Large volumes of water from the Prasae Reservoir flowed down the Prasae River, overflowing into low-lying zones and damaging hundreds of households and agricultural areas, especially durian plantations.
After receiving calls for help, the Satip Disaster Response Team mobilized personnel and equipment to evacuate residents and move essential items to higher ground. Officers had to proceed with extreme caution due to powerful water currents and continuously rising water levels.
The team then received an urgent request from Village 5, Yangngam subdistrict, Kaeng district, where pigsties had flooded rapidly. Thousands of pigs were trapped and struggling to stay afloat in the strong currents. The Satip Disaster Response Team quickly deployed flat-bottomed boats to the scene and worked to move the animals out of their pens and transport them to higher ground with urgency. The rescue effort was challenging due to powerful water flow and extensive flooding in the surrounding area.
Water levels have now begun to recede, with only intermittent light rain falling. Officials and residents continue to monitor the situation closely and remain prepared in case of heavy rainfall and further water surges.
