Rescue Team Evacuates 40 Pigs From Rising Floodwaters

The Siam Rescue Unit Poo In Team was called urgently late at night on September 28 to move 40 young pigs after floodwaters inundated their pen in Nang Rong District, Buriram Province. The rescue team's vehicle became stuck in a washed-out section of road and had to be pulled free by a local farmer's tractor. The team then traveled by boat approximately 2 kilometers to the pig pen, where they found the animals were around 2-3 months old and weighed 30-40 kilograms each.
The rescue proved challenging because the team had no experience catching pigs, and the local residents had already evacuated from the flooding. The rescuers managed to load 7-9 pigs per trip onto the boat. Team leader Vorabodin Rungrojchaigul said they responded because villagers were in distress and without intervention all the pigs would have died as water levels continued rising.
The team gradually transported all 40 pigs by boat and handed them over to a tractor, which carried them to higher ground pig pens belonging to local residents. The operation took about seven hours and concluded around 6 a.m., with team members covered in mud and pig waste by the time they finished.
