Srakaew Irrigation Department Denies Dam Crack Rumors

Srakaew Irrigation Department has dismissed online rumors that the Khlong Phra Sathung reservoir dam has cracked, confirming that the structure remains sound with no signs of failure or damage. The department conducted a field inspection after social media claims that the reservoir had cracked, prompting public warnings to move belongings to higher ground and stay alert. The inspection confirmed the dam remains in normal condition with no collapse or cracks whatsoever.

Nattakorn Saktrakul, director of the Srakaew Irrigation Project, led the inspection and examined dam behavior monitoring equipment. Officials stated that the dam and reservoir are operating normally with no visible damage, contrary to claims spread online. The department continuously monitors dam safety using automated measuring instruments checked daily by the dam and irrigation structure safety division.

Water volume in the Khlong Phra Sathung reservoir has decreased noticeably but discharge operations continue at steady rates. Earlier high water levels below the dam were caused by overflow through the emergency spillway. Water levels are expected to return to normal within two to three days if no additional rain falls. As of September 28, 2026, the reservoir held 73.083 million cubic meters, approximately 112.44 percent of capacity, with discharge continuing at about 10 million cubic meters per day.

Emergency spillway discharge has dropped significantly from previous levels of about 8 million cubic meters daily to approximately 500,000 cubic meters daily, with spillway water level remaining at about 7 centimeters and trending toward normal. The department urged the public to rely on official sources and not spread unverified information, reiterating that reports of the dam cracking are false. Officials will continue monitoring water conditions and dam safety continuously.
