Government Warns of Critical Flooding Risk in Rayong Canal
Water levels in Rayong's Ban Khao Wang Thani canal surged to critical heights on September 28, with discharge exceeding safe thresholds by 22 percent and breaching embankments by 68 centimeters.
On September 28, 2025, government spokesman Akkaraphop Pienpised announced at Government House that water levels at measurement point Z.11 in the Ban Khao Wang Thani area, Kaeng District, Rayong, had risen to 7.21 meters as of 10:00 a.m. — a rapid increase of 15 centimeters in just one hour from 7.06 meters at 9:00 a.m. Water discharge has increased to 205.20 cubic meters per second, exceeding the critical threshold of 168.00 cubic meters per second and causing water levels to breach embankments by 68 centimeters.
Akkaraphop stated that a large mass of water from upstream areas has now converged in the system, causing water levels in Pra Saeng Canal and nearby areas to rise sharply and flow turbulently. He urged residents in low-lying and downstream areas to remain vigilant and closely monitor official warnings, as water levels may rise further and suddenly inundate areas.
Residents who have already evacuated are strictly prohibited from returning to low-lying riverside areas and must remain in safe zones. Downstream residents are advised to watch for sudden rises and overflow, follow government alerts closely, and contact authorities immediately if assistance is needed. The government is mobilizing full resources to assist affected residents.
