Rayong Braces for Overflow from Two Critical Reservoirs
Two reservoirs in Rayong's Kaeng District have reached critical overflow levels, forcing emergency discharge into downstream low-lying areas and prompting authorities to warn residents to avoid waterways and monitor official alerts.
On September 28, the Kaeng District Agricultural Office posted an alert identifying two major reservoirs as critical water sources requiring close monitoring. The Prasaet Reservoir, where water levels have reached critical status and emergency discharge is necessary, affects areas including Ban Na and the Cart Road. The Khlong Ra-ok Reservoir, located near Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park, is also overflowing and affecting surrounding areas. Water from both reservoirs is flowing downstream into low-lying zones, and farmers and residents are urged to remain vigilant and monitor official warnings closely.
As of 8 a.m. on September 28, water levels at the Prasaet Reservoir (measurement point Z.11 at Ban Khao Wang Thai) had dropped slightly but remained 54 centimetres above the riverbank threshold at 7.07 metres. The discharge rate measured 197.50 cubic metres per second, exceeding the safe capacity of 168.00 cubic metres per second. Between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m., water levels fluctuated within a critically high range of 7.05 to 7.10 metres, and the situation remains in crisis with continued overflow.
The Kaeng District Agricultural Office urges evacuated residents to remain in safe areas and not to return to low-lying zones near waterways, as water from upstream sources and the Prasaet Reservoir continues to flow downstream. All residents are advised to stay alert and closely monitor official government warnings.
