Pathum Thani Deploys 300 Sandbags to Prevent Canal Flooding Repeat
Pathum Thani officials deployed 300 sandbags along Klong Ha canal to prevent flooding similar to 2011, as water overflows threaten the area ahead of scheduled irrigation releases.
On September 28, Assawin Wongnakha, head of the Klong Ha Subdistrict Administrative Organization, led disaster prevention officials in urgently deploying 300 sandbags along Klong Ha road and Klong Rompipat canal. The action was prompted by canal water overflowing onto the road due to ongoing road construction, and concerns that flooding could repeat the damage seen in 2011, when an embankment failure at the same location caused widespread inundation in Klong Luang area. Officials are preparing temporary defenses ahead of the Royal Irrigation Department's water release, citing uncertainty about potential water diversion from the Pasak watershed. A 24-hour water monitoring team has been established, and authorities have coordinated with Klong Ha police to set up three evacuation centers at local temples. The provincial governor has declared the area a disaster zone, and residents are asked to document damage to agricultural land and homes for future relief assistance.
