The article profiles several highly valued Buddhist amulets and commemorative coins created by respected monks. Luang Por Kuay's handmade "Samadet with Sivalee" amulets from around 1972–1973 are crafted from mixed powdered materials and feature a three-tiered base with a Sivalee image on the back, now rare and highly sought after. Luang Por Chong created numerous talismans during the Indochina War (1940–1942) including coins, sacred cloth, metal rods, and protective items that were distributed to soldiers and police; his first coin series from 1941 is now exceptionally scarce and commands high prices. In 2016, the 104-year-old Luang Pu Songkhum of Wat Ban Sai in Lopburi commissioned a "Wishful Fulfillment" amulet coin featuring a meditative monk figure surrounded by a peacock pattern, with Khmer script and commemorative text on the reverse, making it highly collectible. Luang Por Mahapin of Wat Ariyavongsa Ram in Ratchaburi created coins marking the cornerstone ceremony of Chalita Ariya Chedi on June 30, 2007, featuring the abbot's half-figure on the obverse and the chedi on the reverse, another sought-after piece among amulet collectors.

Revered Monk Luang Pu Jai Dies at 100

Revered Monk Luang Pu Jai Dies at 100
10 Aug Khaosod

Luang Pu Jai Inthasuvanno, or Phra Ratchamongkol Wutthajarn of Wat Sedet in Muang Mai district, Amphawa, Samut Songkhram province, was a highly respected Buddhist monk deeply revered by residents throughout the Mae Klong river basin.

Originally named Jai Kham Sonchai, he was born on November 23, 1861 (B.E. 2405) in Bang Kung subdistrict, Bang Khun Thi district, Samut Songkhram. His family later relocated to Muang Mai, Amphawa, Samut Songkhram.

At the age of 21, he was fully ordained at Wat Bang Koh Thep Sak with Phra Achan Chui serving as his preceptor, and received the monastic name Inthasuvanno. He studied Buddhist doctrines, meditation techniques, and various esoteric disciplines under his preceptor. He was devoted to learning the Dharma in both Thai and Khmer scripts until achieving mastery. He also developed an interest in occult knowledge and studied meditation practices under Luang Pu Yim of Wat Nong Bua, a renowned monk in Kanchanaburi province.

In 1891 (B.E. 2434), Phra Achan Chui recognized his exceptional abilities, wisdom, and knowledge, deeming him capable of taking care of himself and leading a community well. At that time, Wat Yai Im, a newly constructed temple, was entrusted to his care. He dedicated his effort, body, and spirit to developing and expanding the temple, eventually making it one of Samut Songkhram's most prominent and beautiful monasteries.

On one occasion, His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch Somdej Phra Maha Samana Chao Krom Phraya Wachirayan Warorot, the Supreme Patriarch of Wat Bowornnivet, made an inspection tour of Buddhist communities in major cities and visited this temple. He bestowed a new name upon it: Wat Sedet.

Because of his familiarity with Wat Sedet, the Supreme Patriarch showed great compassion toward Luang Pu Jai. This was evident in the newly constructed ordination hall, which was financed and designed under royal commission. Additionally, members of the royal family who accompanied the Supreme Patriarch also contributed funds to the temple's construction.

During the period of building Wat Sedet, Luang Pu Jai frequently traveled to Kanchanaburi province to purchase timber for the temple. He made these journeys over many years until the temple was completed. Every year, he would visit Wat Nong Bua to pay respects to Luang Pu Yim, presenting him with areca nut as an offering, showing his deep reverence for his teacher.

One day, Luang Pu Yim told him that if he were interested in occult knowledge, he would pass it on. Luang Pu Jai immediately asked to become his student. Luang Pu Yim's first lesson involved testing psychic power: he lit a candle in a water vessel and instructed Luang Pu Jai to focus his mental energy on the flame to break it in half. Only when successful would the teaching be imparted.

Luang Pu Jai practiced for seven nights without success. After returning to rest, he decided that if the candle still did not break by the following night, he would return to Amphawa. On the eighth night, he succeeded.

Luang Pu Yim praised him, saying, "You are already more skilled than I was when I started," because Luang Pu Yim himself had needed to practice for fifteen days. Luang Pu Yim then fully transmitted to Luang Pu Jai all the knowledge of creating the Takrut Maha Rang Prap Hongsa and the famous candy-shaped Takrut talismans.

In 1953 (B.E. 2496), he was elevated to Phra Suthasarawutthajarn, a third-rank ecclesiastical title. On December 5, 1961 (B.E. 2504), he was again elevated to Phra Ratchamongkol Wutthajarn, a royal-rank ecclesiastical title.

He passed away on Saturday, June 23, 1962 (B.E. 2505), at the age of 100, having been a monk for 78 years.

Among the most popular objects attributed to him is the "Takrut Maha Prap" (Great Subduing Amulet). These takrut are no larger than five inches, created using a similar process to the Takrut Maha Rang Prap Hongsa but with some magical syllables omitted. Because the process for creating the Hongsa-subduing takrut is extremely complex, the Maha Prap version was developed as a simpler alternative, though it remains rare due to its intricate craftsmanship and the blessed power attributed to it. The Maha Prap takrut is highly sought after by collectors.

Thailand's 737 MAX Fleet Unaffected by FAA Door Order
10 Aug Khaosod

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has verified that all 12 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in service domestically are unaffected by a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airworthiness directive issued following the discovery of cracks in the forward service door frame structure of some Boeing 737 MAX aircraft overseas.

After cross-checking the serial numbers of Thailand's 12 737 MAX 8 aircraft against the FAA's technical specifications and affected aircraft ranges, CAAT confirmed that none of the Thai-registered aircraft fall within the affected production line numbers. Consequently, no additional inspections or repairs are required, and the aircraft may continue normal operations.

CAAT will continue to monitor technical data, airworthiness directives, and safety measures from aviation authorities and aircraft manufacturers. The agency will also ensure that Thai operators strictly comply with airworthiness requirements to maintain civil aviation safety standards and passenger confidence.

10 Aug Khaosod

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchat Chomklin chaired a meeting of the Committee for Flood and Drought Prevention and Management in the Eastern region on August 10 at Chachoengsao provincial hall, bringing together government officials, provincial governors, and relevant agencies to bolster disaster preparedness across eight provinces: Chachoengsao, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo, and Nakhon Nayok.

Suchat stated that the government under Prime Minister Anusit Charnvirakul is committed to systematic, swift, and coordinated disaster management to help citizens efficiently. He ordered local authorities and the private sector to plan operations collaboratively, reduce redundancy, and support affected populations effectively. Key measures include installing pumps, opening waterways, clearing obstructions, and coordinating water drainage with the situation.

The minister instructed the Natural Resources Ministry to prepare fully with personnel, equipment, tools, and resources to provide immediate assistance when floods or droughts occur. The government will coordinate emergency shelters with sufficient capacity in collaboration with hotels and businesses, and health authorities are ordered to prepare medical personnel, vehicles, medicines, and 24-hour emergency services, prioritizing vulnerable groups.

Suchat established three sub-committees to oversee the eight Eastern provinces, monitor situations closely, assess problems, and report to the main committee for rapid solutions. All agencies are directed to integrate work through national disaster prevention and mitigation command centers and incident command centers at all levels to ensure unified coordination and reduce delays in public assistance. "People's hardship is urgent and cannot wait," Suchat said. "The state must prepare before disaster strikes, establish effective water management systems, and unite all sectors as one team to respond quickly and stand beside the people."

10 Aug Khaosod

At 1:05 p.m. on August 10, 2025, at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Yosthanan Wongsowasdii announced measures following the shooting at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi. Education Minister Prasert Chantharuangtong will submit six national school safety measures to the cabinet meeting tomorrow (August 11) to allow other ministries to provide input and implement them. Actions have already been taken with schools since August 8, and the ministry will soon consult with the Thai Psychiatric Association on psychological matters. The issue is being elevated to national level as a sensitive matter requiring comprehensive care beyond just the Education Ministry.

When asked about additional measures, Yosthanan said they have been implemented according to procedure and the Education Ministry has ordered all school directors to understand and apply the guidelines uniformly. He emphasized that this is a holistic problem-solving issue involving the Department of Mental Health and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, in coordination with the Psychiatric Association for a unified approach.

Regarding whether the Education Ministry should investigate bullying claims circulating on social media, Yosthanan stated that police must conduct the investigation while the Education Ministry will focus on safety aspects and maintain close coordination. He also addressed an incident at a school in Hat Yai, Songkhla, where a foreign teacher contract was terminated but the foreigner later made threats. The Education Ministry is handling this case, emphasizing that safety for both staff and students is paramount.

10 Aug Khaosod

M STUDIO, The Ghost Radio, and MI GROUP present the horror-drama Confessions of a Shaman, directed by Ton Natthanon Chollumpee, adapted from the renowned ghost stories of Kru Trii on The Ghost Radio. The film stars Alek Thiradej Mettaweerayut as Mo To, a former monk who loses everything—loved ones, honor, and justice—to life's cruelties before turning to dark magic under master shaman Mo Tian, played by Chakarit Yaemnaam, to exact revenge.

Director Ton revealed that the film captivates audiences through its blend of human drama and supernatural elements. "What's special is that it comes from The Ghost Radio, and many people are willing to believe it actually happened," he said. "I want viewers to leave feeling something beyond fear—a sense that lingers, making them question what might truly exist in our society."

The cast delivers powerful performances across only five or six main characters. Chakarit embodies Mo Tian so convincingly that audiences forget they're watching an actor. Alek pushes his limits as demanded, fully committing to a deeply emotional role. Boom Ranya's chemistry with Alek creates an authentic mother-son dynamic that moved the entire crew to tears. Am Amrin brings depth to comic moments without tipping into levity, while Wayne Falconer's understated presence elevates the film, and Denis Jelilia adds color and brightness to otherwise dark scenes.

Alek shared his motivation: "I wanted to do this because it's genuinely challenging. Director Ton asked if I could cut my skin head, lose more weight, and much more. The hardest part involves one deeply painful scene, and after over a decade in the industry, I couldn't pass on this role."

From legendary horror tales to a full-scale cinema experience, Confessions of a Shaman takes viewers into a world of dark magic, vengeance, and a path of no return, arriving in theaters December 12.

Ex-Politician Says He Didn't Intend to Shoot Nonthaburi Official

Former Nonthaburi MP Chaloem Riowraeng claimed he didn't intend to shoot provincial official Pol. Maj. Gen. Thongchai Yenprasert during a confrontation over 11 million baht in unpaid loans, saying the driver drew his weapon first.

Ex-Politician Says He Didn't Intend to Shoot Nonthaburi Official
10 Aug Khaosod

Former Nonthaburi MP Chaloem Riowraeng provided a detailed account at Rattanathiambat Police Station in Nonthaburi on Thursday afternoon, explaining the shooting of Pol. Maj. Gen. Thongchai Yenprasert, chairman of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization. The incident stemmed from a dispute over 11 million baht in loans and allegations related to a recent election candidacy. Thongchai's driver was also seriously injured.

At 13:15 on Thursday, Chaloem revealed he never expected to find himself in such a situation and had never been arrested in his life. He said he came to discuss with his friend about retrieving 11 million baht he had previously lent, as he is currently facing financial hardship due to medical expenses from an illness since 2554 (2011).

Chaloem stated that throughout his life he had been a helpful friend and had lent money to various people—some 6 million or 15 million baht—without demanding repayment because he was willing to help. When he learned his friend had come into money, he made the trip to ask for assistance.

Regarding the shooting, Chaloem explained that when he mentioned the MP position he had provided to Thongchai, his friend became angry and pushed him in the room before refusing to talk. Chaloem followed him to his car and knocked on the window to continue the conversation. When the window was not opened, he drew a gun but had no intention of firing. At that moment, the driver drew his weapon first, prompting Chaloem to shoot.

After the incident, Chaloem fled the scene thinking the injuries would not be serious, then returned on a motorcycle to surrender to police. He insisted he had no intention of killing anyone.

Chaloem apologized to the people of Nonthaburi and to the provincial administrator's family, reiterating that he and Thongchai were friends and he never anticipated such an outcome. He said he only wanted to talk, but his friend refused. He claimed he felt neither resentment nor anger at the moment—had they been allowed to discuss the matter, it would have been resolved. However, when the driver drew his gun, he made the decision to fire.

Chaloem also expressed sadness about his own family, believing his daughter would be devastated by the incident.

Thailand Completes 100 Football Fields for Youth Development
10 Aug Khaosod

The "100 Football Fields for Thai Youth Power" project, operating for 10 years under King Power Thailand, has announced the successful completion of all 100 international-standard artificial turf pitches, reaching across every region of the country including mountain zones, islands, border areas, and remote communities previously lacking sports facilities.

The 100 fields are designed as more than just football venues but as "spaces of hope" enabling diverse creative activities and community engagement. All pitches are seven-a-side international-standard artificial turf fields distributed nationwide: 13 in the North, 29 in the Northeast, 24 in the Central region, 10 in the East, 6 in the West, and 18 in the South.

Each field was constructed to international standards with safety, durability, and multiple uses in mind, accommodating education, training, competition, and community activities. The project exemplifies the football field's role as more than a sports space—as a place to build dreams, develop people, create opportunities, and strengthen communities. The 100th field was delivered to Pang Khane Pithaya School in Na Thad District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, a border-area school that previously faced limited exercise space and non-standard facilities due to rocky, hard terrain that restricted full-potential sports training and activities.
