Thai Hammer Thrower Subenrat Wins Long-Awaited Asian Games Bronze
Surat Thani hammer thrower Subenrat Insaeng secured Thailand's bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with a 61.43-metre throw, ending a 12-year wait for an Asian Games medal since 2014.
Subenrat Insaeng, a power athlete from Surat Thani, claimed the bronze medal she had been waiting for after recording a throw of 61.43 metres in the hammer throw at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026, held at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. The throw marks the best performance of the year. Gold went to Feng Pin of China at 63.83 metres, with silver claimed by Jiang Zhichao at 62.25 metres, also the year's best standard.
After the competition, Subenrat revealed her emotions: "I'm quite satisfied. It rained throughout the competition, but I thought everyone faced the same conditions so I gave my all. This is a medal I've been waiting for over 12 years, ever since the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. I hoped to win an Asian Games medal, and I was so excited I cried. I've sacrificed a lot to reach this point, and all my efforts have paid off. I'm grateful to my coach, with whom I've trained for seven years through many obstacles. Today we made it happen."
Looking ahead, Subenrat said: "Next year I'll compete in the World Championships and need to meet the qualifying standard, which is quite high. There's also the Asian Championships and the 9th Southeast Asian Games, and I'll give my best effort in all of them."
