Thai housemaid files complaint after heated argument with 2 foreigners in PattayaLegacyA Thai housemaid filed a police complaint, alleging that two foreign men insulted and threatened her during a dispute over rubbish outside a home in Pattaya. The neighbour dispute took place in a housing estate on Khao Thap Phraya Road, although the date and time of the incident were not disclosed. The woman, whose identity has been withheld, shared CCTV footage of the confrontation with Amarin TV and described what happened. According to the housemaid, she works for an Italian family whose home is opposite the property occupied by the two foreign neighbours. She alleged that an elderly foreign man, wearing only a towel, carried a bag of rubbish and left it outside her employers’ property before walking away. Photo via Amarin TV Footage broadcast by Amarin TV appeared to show the man placing the rubbish bag beside the fence before leaving the area. The maid said she waited outside the house to speak to the old foreign man when he returned. According to the footage, she questioned him about leaving the rubbish outside the property. Although much of the conversation could not be clearly heard, the foreigner was audible at one point saying he did not like the woman’s employers. The housemaid responded that security cameras had recorded what had happened. The argument then escalated before the pair moved apart. Photo via Amarin TV A second foreign man, believed by the housemaid to be the elderly man’s son, later approached and continued the confrontation. According to the woman, the younger man, who spoke Thai, said his father was elderly and had acted out of misunderstanding. She alleged he then insulted her, calling her dead brain and saying she had a low level of education. The maid also alleged that the man claimed his father was a high-ranking soldier before threatening her, saying, “Lucky, this is Thailand. If you are abroad, you will be beat to death.” Photo via Amarin TV The woman said she called police to the scene, but claimed the two men refused to speak with officers. Amarin TV reported that its journalists also attempted to contact the two foreign men for comment but were unable to do so because the property remained closed. At the time of publication, police had not announced whether the two men had been summoned for questioning or provided any update on the investigation. The incident prompted calls from some social media users for the foreign nationals to be deported. Authorities have not commented on those demands.

Hospital Admits to Banquet in Infant ICU Before Baby Dies

Hospital staff held a five-table Chinese banquet in a neonatal ICU with five other newborns present and without wearing masks, a day before a premature infant died at Ang Thong Hospital in Thailand. An autopsy was ordered after the parents

Hospital Admits to Banquet in Infant ICU Before Baby Dies
27 Jul Khaosod

At 11:00 AM on July 27, 2025, at the Ang Thong Provincial Health Office, Dr. Thaveechoik Rojanaarumphakul, provincial health officer, along with Dr. Parichard Sirawat, director of Ang Thong Hospital, and other senior medical officials held a press conference regarding the death of a newborn. A 40-year-old father and 36-year-old mother filed a complaint with the Pavena Foundation after delivering their premature son via cesarean section. The infant weighed 4,305 grams at birth and was admitted to the neonatal ICU with a lung infection.

During the infant's treatment, the hospital held five tables of a Chinese banquet inside the pediatric ICU, with approximately five other newborns present in the same room. Staff served the banquet without wearing masks or protective equipment. The following day, July 21, 2025, the couple's infant died.

Disturbed by the death, the parents sought help from the Pavena Foundation. The Foundation coordinated with police to send the body for an autopsy at the Police Hospital's Forensic Institute. The hospital had not initially notified police to conduct an autopsy, instead telling the parents to cremate the body immediately. The mother called the foundation's emergency hotline 1134 for assistance.

Preliminary investigation findings revealed that the mother had uncontrolled diabetes before pregnancy. Prenatal records showed her blood sugar levels were consistently elevated above normal range, contributing to the infant's above-average birth weight for gestational age.

On July 16, 2025, the infant was born prematurely at 36 weeks gestation, weighing 4,305 grams, exceeding the normal weight for gestational age (Large for Gestational Age: LGA). The mother had a history of diabetes and hypertension and experienced premature rupture of membranes. These factors resulted in the infant developing persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHIN), transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTNB), and suspected sepsis—conditions with high mortality rates.

About one hour after birth, the infant showed respiratory distress and low blood oxygen levels. The infant received standard medical treatment including medication, assisted ventilation, and close monitoring in the neonatal ICU. However, the infant's condition deteriorated according to the natural progression of the illness.

Bangkok Tightens Safety Checks at 1,066 Businesses

Bangkok is conducting strict safety inspections at 1,066 businesses, including checks on building safety, fire prevention, and hygiene standards through a new online self-assessment system with a September 30 deadline.

Bangkok Tightens Safety Checks at 1,066 Businesses
27 Jul Khaosod

Bangkok is conducting strict safety inspections at 1,066 establishments, checking building safety, fire prevention systems, and hygiene standards. The city has launched a Self-Check online system allowing business operators to submit self-assessment documents.

On July 27, 2025, at Bangkok City Hall, Deputy Governor Pornprom Wickitsetr announced the enhanced safety initiative. A meeting held on July 26 brought together Bangkok authorities and business operators to discuss raising safety standards for service venues and similar establishments throughout the city.

Bangkok has identified 147 licensed service venues and 919 similar businesses, totaling 1,066 establishments. These "similar" businesses differ from licensed venues in that they operate outside zoning restrictions but hold permits for food service and entertainment, which are considered health-risk activities.

Bangkok has therefore upgraded its inspection checklist beyond the original public health focus to include comprehensive building safety and fire prevention standards. Inspections now cover three main areas:

1. Building Safety (ventilation systems, electrical systems, decorative materials, thermal insulation, soundproofing) 2. Fire Prevention (emergency exit signs, fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, firefighting equipment installation, evacuation routes, emergency lighting, and related systems) 3. Hygiene (building condition, noise control and prevention, ventilation, lighting, toilets, urinals, hand-washing facilities)

Bangkok will launch a Self-Check online system through the Digital Office, covering five critical categories:

1. Fire prevention systems 2. Electrical wiring, sound systems, signaling systems 3. Wall and ceiling materials, insulation 4. Floor plans showing operational area and maximum occupancy 5. Insurance coverage and liability insurance for injury or property damage to third parties

Business operators must attach photos and certified documentation from engineers before submitting data to Bangkok authorities. The system will be distributed to all operators by July 28, 2025, with a deadline of September 30, 2025, for completing self-assessments and submissions as part of Bangkok's citywide safety standard enhancement initiative.

Suriyachai Raviwon, Director of the Bureau of Prevention and Disaster Relief, explained that the bureau has developed a three-phase safety management framework for businesses: Prevention Readiness (appointing risk assessment officers, training staff in basic firefighting and evacuation drills, continuous safety campaigns); Response Readiness (clear decision-making procedures and command structures, designated response and evacuation teams, alert systems and guides); and Recovery Readiness (coordination plans with external agencies, damage assessment, and business recovery support measures).

Thailand Discovers Rare Laotian Bat Species for First Time

Researchers have discovered the Hipposideros rotalis (Laotian Leaf-nosed Bat) in Thailand for the first time, found at Sam Wua Lin Limestone Forest Park in Bueng Kan Province during a biodiversity survey.

Thailand Discovers Rare Laotian Bat Species for First Time
27 Jul Khaosod

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchat Chomklin announced that the government prioritizes continuous conservation and restoration of natural resources to maintain forest abundance and the country's biodiversity. This commitment has yielded concrete results with the discovery of the Hipposideros rotalis (Laotian Leaf-nosed Bat) in Thailand for the first time, found within Sam Wua Lin Limestone Forest Park in Bueng Kan Province.

Suchat reported that the Forest Department's Research and Development Office made the discovery through a vertebrate biodiversity survey project supported by the Science, Research and Innovation Promotion Office. Researchers began surveying the area in early 2025 and identified this bat species in Thailand for the first time, despite it being previously reported only in Laos. The minister stated that this finding reflects the ecosystem's richness in the forest park and provides valuable scientific data for studying the country's biodiversity. Although the species is classified as low-risk for extinction, it confirms that Thailand's forests retain potential for discovering academically important species in the future.

"The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry prioritizes surveying and conserving new wildlife and plant species as they reflect the completeness of our natural resources. We will continue managing our forests while supporting research to preserve biodiversity and pass on abundant natural resources to the next generation," Suchat said. The Forest Department will strengthen protection of Sam Wua Lin Limestone Forest Park and continue supporting biodiversity research to create new knowledge and enhance the country's natural resource conservation efforts.

Farmers Demand Swift Action on Water Contamination in Northern Rivers

Farmers in Northern Thailand are demanding urgent government action on heavy metal and arsenic contamination in major rivers from upstream mining operations, calling for international negotiations rather than domestic management alone. Rece

Farmers Demand Swift Action on Water Contamination in Northern Rivers
27 Jul Khaosod

Farmers dependent on the Kok, Sai, Ruak, and Mekong rivers have called on the government to urgently address contamination from upstream mining operations and make it a national priority. Water quality tests at 22 sampling points conducted June 15–19, 2569 revealed continued arsenic exceedances in the Sai River, while the Kok River remained mostly within standards except at border areas. The Ruak and Mekong rivers showed arsenic levels within limits in water but dangerous levels of heavy metal accumulation in sediment, particularly at Chiang Khong on the Mekong, along with heavy metal contamination in soil, crops, fish, and groundwater in multiple locations. Although many samples remain below standard thresholds, they reflect an ongoing accumulation trend in the environment.

Farmers reported that murky water, sediment buildup, and increasingly severe flooding over recent years have reduced yields, requiring more frequent dredging in some areas. They called on the government to urgently negotiate with upstream nations to address the root cause rather than relying only on domestic budget allocations to manage the symptoms. Somkiat Khueanchaisa, chair of the Mae Nam for Life Association, said the group will compile proposals and feedback from all river basins from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and urge the government to designate Kok River basin pollution a national agenda item, demanding strict upstream mining controls and wastewater treatment to restore environmental quality and public confidence long-term.

Dr. Suebsakul Kitnukor revealed that the government has made progress securing new raw water sources for tap water supply to over 40,000 households in Chiang Rai to reduce long-term risks from using Kok River water. Plans also include establishing a laboratory in Chiang Rai Province to analyze water, soil, crops, and aquatic animals, with results available within seven days. However, the root cause—mining activities in neighboring countries—requires serious resolution through negotiations between the Thai government and relevant nations to sustainably end basin pollution.

13-Year-Old Boy Drowns After Fishing Boat Capsizes

A 13-year-old boy drowned in a deep pond in Rayong after a fishing boat capsized, while two other boys escaped; rescue teams recovered his body after a 30-minute search.

13-Year-Old Boy Drowns After Fishing Boat Capsizes
27 Jul Khaosod

On July 27, Deputy Superintendent Pholwat Thumsing of Nong Krap Police Station in Rayong received a report of a capsized boat with a missing child in a large pond at Moo 5, Nong Bua Subdistrict, Ban Khai District. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. The pond is known to be extremely deep, reaching 4 to 5 meters in some areas. A rowing boat and fishing equipment were found floating in the water. A 13-year-old boy was rescued by a villager and pulled from the pond with water aspiration symptoms; he was rushed to the hospital. Another boy managed to swim safely to shore. After approximately 30 minutes of underwater search efforts, rescue teams located the body of a 13-year-old boy submerged in the water. The body was brought to shore and medical personnel were contacted for an autopsy. Investigation revealed that all three boys had set out together to fish in the middle of the pond. During the outing, the boat lost balance, capsized, and sank. The incident was compounded by the pond's significant depth and the fact that the boy who died was not a strong swimmer. The deceased boy's grandfather expressed heartfelt regret, stating he had warned his grandson many times not to fish at this particular pond due to safety concerns. Despite the family having no shortage of food at home, the boy's youthful restlessness prompted him to invite friends out fishing, resulting in this tragic accident. Police have sent the body for a detailed autopsy and are conducting an investigation in accordance with the law before returning the body to the family for religious funeral rites.

Thai Woman Arrested at Japan Airport Over Meth in Coffee

A Thai courier was arrested at Japan's Fukuoka Airport in July after crystal methamphetamine was allegedly found in a coffee packet she was carrying, with her family claiming she was unknowingly used by drug traffickers posing as legitimate

Thai Woman Arrested at Japan Airport Over Meth in Coffee
27 Jul Khaosod

The family of a Thai woman arrested in Japan after authorities allegedly found crystal methamphetamine hidden inside a coffee packet in her luggage is urging Thai police to investigate what they believe may be an international drug trafficking scheme exploiting parcel couriers.

The 28-year-old woman, identified as Juthathip Thongnoi, traveled to Japan on 11 July with her boyfriend and another companion. The group worked as couriers, transporting parcels for Thai customers living in Japan.

According to her family, the group departed from Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport on a Thai AirAsia flight and arrived at Fukuoka Airport on the morning of 12 July, where customs officials inspected their luggage.

Juthathip was detained after authorities allegedly discovered methamphetamine concealed inside a coffee packet packed among the items she was carrying, her family said.

Her boyfriend, Sarawut Klabdee, said Juthathip had operated a Line group called THIENTHIEN SHOP since last year, offering parcel delivery services between Thailand and Japan.

He said that on 10 July, a customer using the Line name "ing ing" contacted the group and hired them to carry a 12-kilogram package to Japan for a fee of 3,600 baht. The package was sealed with heavy tape, and he was unsure whether Juthathip had opened it to inspect its contents.

Sarawut said the same customer had previously used the service in May, so they did not suspect anything unusual.

After arriving in Japan, all three travelers were questioned by airport authorities for about 11 hours. Sarawut and the third traveler were later released, while Juthathip remained in custody.

He said the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Fukuoka initially informed the family that authorities had detected a stimulant substance but did not specify where it had been found. On 22 July, the family received formal notification that crystal meth had allegedly been discovered inside a coffee packet.

The group had transported nine parcels on the trip. Sarawut said every customer collected their items except the person using the Line name "ing ing," who never showed up and later blocked all contact. He added that the payment had been transferred from a bank account under the name HO THI MAI.

Juthathip's mother, Kanyawee Fuengphian, said the family filed a police report at Bang Bua Thong Police Station after being notified of her daughter's arrest by the Thai consulate on 22 July.

She said they reviewed security camera footage from their daughter's housing estate and have already handed evidence to investigators in hopes of identifying the person who delivered the parcel.

The family acknowledged that Juthathip had failed to inspect the package before transporting it, but insisted she had never been involved with drugs.

They are now calling on Thai authorities to investigate the individual who entrusted the parcel to her and determine whether the case is linked to other recent incidents involving drugs hidden in packages carried by unsuspecting couriers.

Four Suspects Arrested in Tourist Robbery, Assault Case
27 Jul Khaosod

PATTAYA — Four transgender women have been arrested in connection with the alleged robbery and assault of a 53-year-old Australian tourist in Pattaya on 27 December 2025, police said.

The Australian man reported to Pattaya police that he was attacked by a group of transgender women who allegedly assaulted him and stole his belongings.

The incident raised concerns over the image of Pattaya as an international tourist destination. Police said they continued investigating and tracking down those involved.

On 29 June 2026, the Pattaya Provincial Court approved arrest warrants for four suspects on charges of jointly committing nighttime robbery and assault causing physical and mental harm.

Pattaya Tourist Police investigators later located the suspects, with some allegedly leaving the area while others continued living in Pattaya.

The suspects were identified as Peeraphong, 19, and Pimphisa, 20, who were arrested outside condominiums in Pattaya; Chanachai, 20, who was arrested outside a restaurant in Maha Sarakham province; and Pongsakorn, 18, who was arrested at a residence in Ratchaburi province.

Police said all four acknowledged they were the individuals named in the arrest warrants and appeared in video footage from the scene, but denied the charges.

They were handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings, police said.
