Thailand, world-ranked 52nd and Group B runners-up, played China, world-ranked 34th and Group D champions, in the quarterfinal. Coach Park Gi-won fielded Thupapradit Phraputt, Naphadet Pinitdi, Anuchit Pakdeekaew, Bunyut Wongthor, Thanat Bamrungphakdi, and Chaiwat Thungkam, with Nakarin Intanu as libero. Thailand competed evenly against China's tall players but lost 0-3, with set scores of 23-25, 23-25, and 19-25. Thailand's campaign ended at the quarterfinals, while China advanced to the semifinals.
