Thai Met Department Issues 5-Day Heavy Rain and Flood Warning
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a five-day severe weather warning (November 5-9) forecasting heavy to very heavy rain across much of the country. Upper regions face thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds early in the period, while the South braces for intense rainfall and high flash-flood and mudslide risks later in the week. Authorities urge residents in dozens of listed provinces to monitor official updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the alert.
The Thai Meteorological Department announced Warning No. 7 (290/2026) on November 4, 2026, regarding volatile weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rain in the South, effective November 5-9. From November 5-7, upper Thailand will experience thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and isolated heavy rain, affecting the Northeast first, followed by the North, Central (including Bangkok and vicinity), and East regions. The public is warned of dangers from thunderstorms and strong winds, and advised to avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards. From November 7-9, the South will see increasing rain with heavy to very heavy downpours in many areas, posing risks of flash floods and mudslides from accumulated rainfall, particularly in foothills near waterways and low-lying basins. This is caused by another high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, strengthening easterly winds over Thailand and the Gulf. In the Andaman Sea and Gulf, waves will exceed two meters during thunderstorms; mariners should navigate with caution and avoid storm-affected areas. For safety, the public should plan activities and travel carefully, monitor continuous updates via the TMD website (http://www.tmd.go.th) or hotlines 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182 (24 hours). The next announcement will be issued November 5, 2026 at 05:00. The warning lists specific provinces at risk for each date: November 5 covers 32 provinces across North, Northeast, Central, East, and South; November 6 covers 25 provinces across North, Central, and South; November 7 list continues.
